NCF Signs Scholarship Agreement with Daughters for Life

 Daughters for Life

New College of Florida has formed a partnership with the Daughters for Life Foundation, headed by bestselling author and peace activist Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, to provide college educations to disadvantaged women from the Middle East.

Under terms of an agreement signed May 28 in Toronto and June 4 in Sarasota, the College, the Foundation and community partners agreed to a three-year pilot program that will bring up to 10 women a year to New College and provide them with scholarships covering the full cost of tuition, room and board and other expenses.

New College Welcomes Back EDGE Program

EDGE study session

The EDGE Program - Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education - has returned to New College, with 12 students studying with Professor of Mathematics Eirini Poimenidou, the local coordinator, and other instructors this month.

The program opened Monday, June 3, with a lunch hosted by New College Provost Stephen Miles and a welcome speech by President Donal O'Shea, a mathematician himself.

EDGE's goal is to help women complete graduate programs in mathematics. Its philosophy is that women who have had success in early math courses, but who have had limited exposure to advanced courses, are capable of earning doctorates.

The Campus Police Department is welcoming its newest member, Officer Thea Schoepfer, with a swearing-in ceremony at 2 p.m., Monday, June 10, at the Department's Office at 501 College Drive.

Officer Schoepfer is a Florida native, born in Miami, with more than a decade of service in law enforcement, serving as a dispatcher, road patrol deputy and narcotics detective.  She previously worked in telecommunications in the Atlanta area, and as a child was an elite-level competitive gymnast. She is married to a law enforcement officer and has a daughter and two grandchildren, and says she is looking forward to a long and fulfilling career at New College.

Please join us in welcoming Thea to the Campus Community. Please call 941-487-4210 with any questions. The ceremony is casual and a great chance to meet some of the Campus Police Family.
