New College of Florida Giving Back This Holiday Season

New College of Florida is giving back this holiday season by working with two local charities, United Way Suncoast and Adopt-a-Family of Manatee County. The College has a long history of supporting both organizations and helping out those in need in the local community.

For the 12th year in a row, New College faculty and staff are donating money to United Way Suncoast's Live United Fund. The fund allows the United Way to partner with local organizations to set collective goals, track results and align programs to carry out the mission of helping underserved people achieve their academic and financial potential. New College is also participating in Adopt-a-Family of Manatee County, which is celebrating 30 years of helping families in need. Each holiday season, Adopt-a-Family provides gifts to over 1,500 families and 4,500 children.

Free and open to the public; no reservations necessary
For more information, call 941-487-4888 or visit newmusicnewcollege.org

Experimental music can be defined as music that privileges process over product: the process may be rigorously controlled, but the outcome will be to some extent indeterminate. Stephen Mile's Experimental Music course at New College addresses the theory and history of experimental music since 1950 with an emphasis on compositional applications. The class has explored the music of John Cage, the Fluxus composers, Cornelius Cardew and Pauline Oliveros, among others. Experience the New College music program during this free workshop, which will feature performances of original experimental compositions.
