How to Simplify CAD for Metrology Jobs
Today's CAD models from designers have ever-increasing assembly and tooling details. The completeness of such CAD models provides a complete resource of almost every detail in the system; however, it causes the size of a typical CAD model file to drastically increase. Saving every detail in a CAD model can create problems for measurement teams tasked with building and inspecting it. So the question is, "How does a measurement team filter a large CAD model down to only the CAD entities necessary to accomplish the job at hand?" The Scanning of Historic St. Luke's Chuch
St. Luke's Church of Smithfield, Virginia dates back to 1632 and is the oldest surviving Gothic building in the US. Despite being carefully preserved by a dedicated group of volunteers, St. Luke's is cracking and settling. Like many historic buildings, St. Luke's lacks any real structural documentation, so how much damage the building is incurring over time is largely unknown.
Just a few months ago, a small team from New River Kinematics (NRK) set out to scan the interior and exterior of the church with the help of API Services. Click here to read how SpatialAnalyzer® (SA) helped get the job done.
