Cardholder News

Hi, I'd like to renew my items.

Working in our Return Room, we often answer the phone to hear the phrase, "Hi, I'd like to renew my items."  With our last online catalog upgrade this past November, we were given the opportunity to turn on a unique feature known as auto-renew.  Auto-renew will take care of renewing books for you on the date they're due, providing no one else is waiting (active hold on the item) or you haven't hit the maximum number of renewals for the item.  While you'll still need to be sure your items renewed, hopefully this will help offset some of the fines we're all guilty of accumulating (even me!).

And speaking of renewals...we did make the tough decision to cut our renewals down from eight (8) or 24 weeks to three (3) or 9 weeks.  This wasn't an easy decision and there's never a magic number that seems to work well for everyone. But, we believe this will help those "browsers" out there who never place a request on an item, as well as help us to keep a variety of materials on our shelves as our budget continues to get cinched.

Many of you have noticed that auto-renewal is active.  The reduction in renewals setting will be changed on Monday, March 2.

So, what does this mean for you?

  • Anyone who currently has items out that have already been renewed 3 or more times, will be out of renewals.  If you're in that boat, please call us and if no one else is waiting, we'll give you one more renewal.
  • Anyone who checks out items beginning on Monday, March 2 will have the standard three (3) week loan plus three (3) more renewals (providing no one else is waiting on the item).

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to give us a call at (317) 852-3167 or email me at drobinson@bburglibrary.net
