The annual Townsend Spring Festival is set for May 2-3 at the Smoky Mountain Visitor's Center in Townsend. There will be crafters, food, demonstrations, tractors and of course, some of the best down home Bluegrass music around. The event is free with parking for $8 which benefits the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to the goings on at the Visitor's Center, there are plenty of other things happening around Townsend that weekend, including a concert by the Sons of Bluegrass and a quilt show at the Heritage Center. Trillium Cove will be bustling with activities as will Jeepism, the Little River Railroad Museum and Nawger Nob.

Blount County's Tourism Day is set for May 5 at 9:30 a.m. at Smithview Pavillion. Tennessee Department of Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker will be on hand as proclamations will be delivered as well as an update on the state of tourism in the county.

After going back 54 years last week, I'm only going back 14 years to this week in 2000 when "Maria Maria," a song by Santana featuring The Product G&B, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 8, and stayed there for ten weeks. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, the song won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
