BEER POSITION ON STATE LEGISLATION
On February 10, 2014, the board voted to officially take a position on state legislation in favor of expanding the definition of beer by increasing the allowable percentage of alcohol. Currently, Tennessee has the lowest cap on beer in the South-East, meaning any beverage over 5% alcohol by weight ("high gravity"), can only be sold in liquor stores. This restricts the rapidly growing craft-brew industry, and keeps jobs out of our state. The chamber is committed to growing both our area and our state, and opposes any legislation that stifles growth.
I just can't get over the British invasion, so I go back to this week in 1964 when the Beatles topped the Billboard singles chart with "I Want to Hold Your Hand." It stayed at number one for five weeks and was the group's first American number one. This song is credited for starting the British invasion of the American music industry. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" became the Beatles' best-selling single worldwide.
