QUICKBOOKS TRAINING
There are only a few slots left for the Thursday, May 2 QuickBooks class offered by the Tennessee Small Business Development Center at the Blount County Chamber office at 201 S. Washington St., in Maryville. Come learn as she shows you how to get organized, save time, and simplify what you do every day. Class registration fee is $95. Call 865-539-7167 to register.
 
WINDHAM PROFESSIONALS TO ADD 150 JOBS
Congratulations go out to Windham Professionals which announced Tuesday it is adding 150 jobs to its Alcoa division.
 
TN CHAMBER PRESIDENT TO VISIT
Catherine Glover, President of the Tennessee Chamber, is visiting Blount County on Thursday, May 9 at 9 a.m. So please come by the Blount Partnership office at 201 S. Washington St., in Maryville, to meet her and find out what the Chamber is doing at the state level. RSVP to Vicky.
 
BLOUNT COUNTY TOURISM DAY SET FOR MAY 10
As part of National Tourism Week, May 4-12, you're invited to join the Blount Partnership for "Tourism Day" on May 10 at 9 a.m. to celebrate what makes Blount County, the Peaceful Side of the Smokies, an ideal tourist destination. The new travel app for SmartPhones will be unveiled. RSVP to Deborah.
 
SEE YOU AT VILLAMARIA AT MARYVILLE COLLEGE
Maryville College, in partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee and the Blount Partnership invites you to attend a special gathering to celebrate and share details about the newly established "Villamaria at Maryville College."
 
The reception is Thursday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts Recital Hall Lobby. Refreshments provided.
 
"Villamaria at Maryville College" is the name of the initiative that will build and strengthen relationships with the Latino community, starting in the 2013-2014 academic year.
 
The goal of the initiative is for Maryville College to be the higher education institution of choice for Latino students and their families in East Tennessee. Its mission statement reads: "We will listen, we will learn, and we will serve our region to become the institution of choice for our Latino community."
 
TOWNSEND SPRING FESTIVAL IS NEXT WEEK
 The 21st edition of the Townsend Spring Festival is just around the corner. This two-day festival is May 3-4. Here's all the 411 you need.

The Smoky Mountain Highland Games are set for May 17-19 at Maryville College. This outstanding event is quite a colorful spectacle with Scottish food, athletes and outstanding musical acts.
 
H.O.G. RALLY VOLUNTEERS
The 2013 Tennessee State HOG Rally is coming to Maryville May 28-June 1 and volunteers are needed for the week-long celebrations, events and activities.
 
There are many events, activities, and places to serve during the rally week. The official website has information including the rally schedule and a request form to personalize volunteering for specific events, times, and dates.
 
If you're ready to make a commitment to help your volunteer committee make this an outstanding rally -- and enhance your Rally Experience in the process -- click on the "Volunteers" link and choose the days you would like to volunteer. The link will allow you to give contact information that will not be shared with others. Type the word CHAMBER in the space asking for Chapter Name to help identify and place Blount Chamber members wishing to volunteer.
 
NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT SET
The 2013 Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit returns to Oak Ridge this year on May 29-30 at Y-12 National Security Complex's New Hope Center.
 
Hosted by Tennessee's 3rd District Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, the Summit will focus on energy, advanced manufacturing, workforce development, innovation and entrepreneurism. Key national and regional leadership will share insights at the event.
