About the Speaker:
The LBJ Express project involves reconstruction of one of the busiest and most congested stretches of highway in North Texas. Initiated in 2011, the dynamic tolling design-build roadway project will shave several years from project delivery compared to design-bid-build and promises to improve mobility by significantly increasing existing roadway capacity while leveraging a $490 million TxDOT investment into a 52-year, $3.1 billion build, operate, and maintenance agreement of the 13 mile corridor.
Mr. Chris Tolar (Trinity Infrastructure, LLC) Environmental Manager of the LBJ Express Project works with a multidisciplinary highly experienced environmental compliance team, highlighted in his presentation. A virtual video tour of the project will be included with a project update and discussion of the requirements of the Comprehensive Development Agreement (CDA) and its provisions to assure compliance with federal, state, and applicable local regulations during construction. An overarching ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System (EMS) serves as the framework for environmental compliance programs including the Environmental Protection Training Program, Environmental Compliance and Mitigation Plan, Hazardous Materials Management Plan, and Construction Monitoring Plan. Key components of EMS implementation will be discussed and presented but environmental compliance has gone well beyond rote conformance to ISO standards. The team has solved unexpected serious environmental problems saving the project millions in hard costs and delays.
Cost for the Lunch:
The cost for this lunch is $25 for members, $30 for non-members, and $20 for public agency officials. For reservations made after the preceding Monday (March 11th), the cost for lunch will be $30 for members, $35 for non-members, and $25 for public agency officials. Please make any cancellations at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. If you RSVP and you do not cancel on time, you will be charged for the meal, because TSPE has to pay for all the meals we RSVP for.
**Please note that online registrations will CLOSE on Tuesday, March 11th at 5 p.m. Also, we will have a special drawing this month for those who PRE-PAY online!!**

March 2013 - President's Message

As we reflect on the success of the past month's events, we have many people to thank!
February 9th was our annual TSPE Dallas Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition - over 130 kids in 6th - 8th grade participated. Many thanks to this year's Co-Chairs, Adam Kane, PE and Howard Gibbs, PE who planned an excellent event. We could not have executed the event without the numerous volunteers from our Dallas chapter. Thank you to everyone who dedicated their Saturday. St. Mark's School of Texas took the 1st Place Team Award and Elizabeth Guo from Hockaday School won both 1st Place Individual and 1st Place in the Countdown Round. We were excited to have TSPE State MATHCOUNTS Coordinator David Burkett, PE and TSPE Region V Representative Jack Young, PE at this year's event. Pictures from MATHCOUNTS: Click Here
On February 20th, our TSPE Dallas Chapter leadership met with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to receive the 2013 Engineer's Week Proclamation. Thank you to Sophia Harvey, PE and Jill Jordan, PE who helped us schedule this meeting with the Mayor! Photos from the Mayor's Proclamation: Click Here
February 21st was the 6th Annual Engineer's Week Event co-hosted by the TSPE Dallas and TSPE Preston Trail Chapters. What an event! 650 engineers from throughout the Metroplex attended and we broke all records for fundraising for our engineering scholarships! The event's success can be attributed to the leadership of Event Co-Chairs John Ho, PE and Chris Flanigan, PE and their hardworking committee, as well as the assistance of our fabulous event planner, Kristine Schwope. Honorary Event Chair, State Representative Bennett Ratliff, PE was unable to attend because the legislative session was on-going, but sent an excellent video message for the audience. Our program flowed perfectly with our Event Emcee David Dean leading the way. And, this year, our E-Week Raffle raised approximately $8,000 due to the hard work of Raffle Chairs Jack Young and Miles Bullion and their amazing team of volunteers. We greatly enjoyed celebrating our TSPE Dallas 2013 Engineer of the Year, Dev Rastogi, PE and TSPE Dallas 2013 Young Engineer of the Year, Miles Bullion, EIT. It has been amazing to work with the E-Week Event Committee over the past 6 years and so rewarding to see the event continue to grow. A preview of event photos: Click Here
I hope you will join us for our March Program with Speaker, Christopher Tolar, Environmental Manager of the LBJ Express Project.
See you March 14th at Maggiano's.
