Advocacy
ADVOCACY CORNER
Last April, MCCPTA passed a Resolution supporting legislation that places Burden of Proof--when a parent challenges in a due process hearing the special education services offered by the school--on school districts. Here is a link to the resolution.
Toward that end, Senate Bill 691, sponsored by Senator Karen Montgomery, has now been introduced in the Maryland General Assembly. Please consider contacting your representative in Annapolis and requesting that they support placing burden of proof on school districts. You can use mdelect.net to find your Maryland General Assembly Senators and Delegates and here is a sample e-mail text you may wish to use. If you have any questions, you can contact Jennifer Young or Rich Hart, RPES PTA delegates.
