Proud Panther Coat Drive
Brrr! It's already getting chilly outside and they are predicting a
cold winter. Have your kids grown out of last year's coats? Not sure what to do with that old coat? The Community Service Committee of the PTA will be organizing a coat drive from November 1-21 to help those in need keep warm for the winter.  We will be collecting adult and children's coats, hats, gloves and mittens. Donation boxes will be in the lobby and we will be donating the items to two local charities. Please donate! Contact Lisa Bosse or Marci Gutmann with any questions.

Storytelling Night is coming to Ritchie Park once again on Thursday, November 29 from 6-8 p.m. RPES teachers and staff will be reading in the Kindergarten classrooms from 6:00 - 6:55 p.m.  We will also have a performance by Noa Baum, an award winning storyteller, who will take students and adults on an adventure that will inspire, delight and entertain! You will have a chance to visit the Scholastic Book Fair and do some holiday shopping too. Siblings welcome. For more information contact brandy.carlson@comcast.net.

Volunteers also needed to help with Storytelling Night. Please consider volunteering by going to www.signupgenius.com/go/storytelling1 and enter RPES to help make Storytelling Night a success. Thank you!

Advocacy
ADVOCACY CORNER
Promethean Boards and Wireless Technology in All Elementary Schools: On Tuesday, Nov. 13, the County Council approved the funding for the MCPS proposal to install Promethean Boards in every elementary school classroom and wireless technology in every elementary school by the beginning of next school year. This is great news for Ritchie Park since we currently have no Promethean Boards and are without wireless technology. At the PTA meeting last week, Sherwin Collette, the MCPS Chief Technology Officer, spoke about how crucial it is for every school to have this basic level of technology infrastructure in order for every child to have the opportunity to expand learning beyond the walls of the classroom. Now Ritchie Park students will have that chance. Thank you to those of you who wrote to the County Council or signed the petition in support of this technology initiative. Read more about the County Council's decision here.
