PTA Directory

All families should have received a copy of the school directory home in the backpacks of your youngest in family.  Although the print directories are provided at no charge to all families, if you want to access the directory on-line from your computer or through an app for your smart phone, you need to be a PTA member.  If you haven't joined the PTA yet, now is a great time to do it. Not only will you have access to the valuable directory information at your fingertips, you will also be helping to fund all the PTA sponsored activities, events, and programs throughout the year that help to enrich the educational experience of your children.  You can find a PTA membership form here.  For questions about the directory, contact Jennifer Young. For questions about PTA membership, contact Marquette Heaven.

Proud Panther Coat Drive
Brrr! It's already getting chilly outside and they are predicting a
cold winter. Have your kids grown out of last year's coats? Not sure what to do with that old coat? The Community Service Committee of the PTA will be organizing a coat drive from November 1-21 to help those in need keep warm for the winter.  We will be collecting adult and children's coats, hats, gloves and mittens. Donation boxes will be in the lobby and we will be donating the items to two local charities. Please donate! Contact Lisa Bosse or Marci Gutmann with any questions.

School Technology Presentation at Nov. PTA Meeting

Sherwin Collette, MCPS Chief Technology Officer, will speak at our Nov. 8 PTA meeting at 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in the new technology that we may be able to get for Ritchie Park and the plan MCPS has for installing and maintaining it and training the teachers on how to use it, please make a point to come to the Nov. PTA meeting. Mr. Collette should be able to give us a good overview of the direction/needs of the school system and some insight regarding the plans to install Promethean Boards
at Ritchie Park. Read information about urging the County Council to approve the technology plan in Advocacy Corner below.

Show Support for RPES at the Board of Education Meeting
The Board of Education has released its schedule for testifying on the CIP budget, which we do by cluster. The RM Cluster will testify on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:20 p.m. for 5 minutes and will emphasize the need to build the RM #5 elementary school and the addition for Julius West Middle School. This is one of those times when we need as many people to come out as possible, wearing our Ritchie Park shirts and carrying signs. You can even bring your children, which really impresses the BOE members, since the testimony is early in the night. The testimonies are scheduled in blocks and we are in the first block so people would need to come at 6:45, but can leave after the block is finished testifying at 7:35. Having a large crowd supporting our cluster really makes a difference and shows the Board members that the community cares about our schools. Ritchie Park's Jennifer Young will be testifying on behalf of the cluster this year, so please consider coming out and showing your support.

Support Promethean Boards in Every Classroom at RPES
On Tuesday, November 6th, the County Council will hold a hearing on the MCPS technology initiative to outfit all schools with wireless networks and complete the installation of Prometheans in all elementary school classrooms by the start of the next school year.  Sign the petition originated by Christa McAuliffe ES PTA or send an email to the County Council, which will be seen by all the County Council members, and ask them to vote for the funding to make this technology proposal a reality.
