Midwest AAOE Members:

Many thanks to the Midwest AAOE board and members for your gracious and kind gift to the Bass Pro Shop.  It was unnecessary but very much appreciated!  I am already making plans.  Thanks to each of you who make the Midwest AAOE the great group that it is today, and for those who continue to be involved regionally and nationally.   Our group is only as strong as each member.  We are together creating a legacy for those who follow in our shoes.

Thanks again for all you do.  Jim

US to tighten regulations governing Medicaid outsourcing

The Washington Post (4/28, Hancock) carries a Kaiser Health News story reporting that state Medicaid programs "have outsourced most of their care management to insurance companies," which "helps government budgets but sets up a potential conflict of interest: The less care these companies deliver, the more money they make." In an attempt to address the issue, "Washington regulators are about to initiate the biggest overhaul of Medicaid managed-care rules in a decade." The regulations, which were sparked by "the growth of Medicaid outsourcing and concerns about access to care," are "expected to limit profits and set stricter requirements for quality of care and the size of doctor networks."

Physicians have until May 20, 2015, to review and dispute reports regarding their financial interactions with drug and medical device manufacturers as reported under the Open Payments (Sunshine Act) program. Disputes initiated by May 20 will be flagged as such when the data set is made public on June 30.

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) states that data can still be disputed after public release, but corrections will be held until the next Open Payments system update.   Read more...
