The following communication was distributed to AAOS Fellows in Medicare Jurisdiction 5 (KS, MO, IA, NB). The Midwest AAOE encourages our members in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska to participate in this important initiative.
AAOS Communication:
In May, you should have received from your local Medicare Administrative Contractor a copy of your individual Quality and Resource Use Report (QRUR).
Starting in 2015, the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to develop a "value-based modifier" that adjusts Medicare Physician Fee Schedule payments based on a medical professional's performance on both quality and resource use also known as a Quality and Resource Use Report (QRUR). CMS initiated a four-state pilot program in your Medicare jurisdiction (Medicare J5) to share QRUR reports with physicians and solicit feedback on the report. Because the measures and methods used in the four-state initiative may become the basis for a national value-based payment modifier, it is essential that you provide thorough input to Medicare on your individual report, including what you believe is accurate or inaccurate, what is missing, and what, should be revised.
The QRUR will be tailored to specialties so your feedback is central to shaping how the QRUR, and therefore the value-based modifier, will affect your fellow orthopaedic surgeons throughout the country.
In order to access your report, please go to wpsmedicare.com/j5macpartb/fees/incentive-programs/qrur-incentive.shtml. You will need to enter your NPI, PTAN, and the last 5 digits of your tax ID. Once you have downloaded your individual report, you can input comments. The reports will be available only until July 6th. Physicians with questions about specific data within their individual report should contact Lynn Reinholtz, Manager of Technical Support for WPS Medicare at [email protected] or 608-3010-2778.
AAOS is developing its advocacy agenda for this issue. To help us with this, we would appreciate you sending a copy of your QRUR Report, as well as any comments given to CMS, to Richard Martin at [email protected] or fax to (202) 546-5051.
Please contribute to this important initiative today.
