Live Music Saturday, Sept. 17, 11:30 - 1:30
Featuring Norma Jean Haynes
"I'm going 'round this world, I'm a banjo pickin' girl.
I'm going 'round this world, baby mine!"
Norma Jean Haynes is on a mission: to travel the world with a banjo. At 20 years old, Norma Jean has played at Carnegie Hall and on the streets of Sarajevo; in England, South Africa, Ireland, France, Scotland, Bosnia, and the Netherlands. Cummington, though, is home, and her own songs are rooted in her experience of Hilltown living. She writes songs with strong limbs, broad minds, and twinkles in their eyes.
If you've only known Norma Jean over the Creamery deli counter, you're in for a surprise! Adventurous in music and in life, Norma Jean is passionate about inviting listeners onto her journey. Join her for an afternoon of folk songs from around the world, original songs from Western Mass., and many wonderful stories. Singing along encouraged.

New England dairy farmers have never needed your support more Have you lived in New England for some time? Do you remember all the family-run dairy farms when you were younger? Most are gone, unfortunately. We need to save the precious few that remain. Can you imagine your beloved countryside with no cows? One of our remaining Hilltown dairy farmers who shops at the Creamery every day told us recently that he had to sell a sizable portion of his herd (at rock-bottom prices) in order to pay his bank loans and continue operating at all. Please respond to this urgent alert from our friends at the NEFU President Roger Noonan and dairy farmer Mary Castonguay will be traveling to Washington, DC, to implore the New England congressional delegation to take bold action on this rural crisis. (See NEFU summary of the current reality below.)
Your ACTION is needed NOW to support New England dairy farmers.
Please call your representatives in Congress today and say, "I care about family dairy farms in New England, so please support disaster assistance relief for them today."
From NEFU:
Dairy Farmers Are Falling Through the Safety Net: Take Action to Protect Family Dairy Farmers in New England!
Family dairy farms form the backbone of New England's agricultural economy, landscape, and rural character. And right now, many of these farms are in trouble. They are facing the perfect storm of: * Low prices - 37% below the 2014 price; * Revenue from milk sales well below cost of production; * Unprecedented drought conditions causing significant reductions in feed and forage yields; and * A Dairy Margin Protection Program (MPP) that isn't working for New England's family dairy farms. Maine dairy farmer and NEFU board member Mary Castonguay and I will be in Washington, DC, next week for the National Farmers Union 2016 Fall Legislative Fly-In. We will be urging our congressional delegation to take bold action on behalf of our imperiled dairy farmers. The timing of this fly-in could not be better. But we only have a narrow window of opportunity to raise awareness and ask Congress to provide immediate disaster assistance relief to support this critical sector of New England agriculture. Right now, in advance of the fly-in, is an essential time for you to call your representatives in Congress to let them know that New England dairy farmers need our help, and they need it now! Sincerely, Roger Noonan, President
