Moldavan wines have a 4000 year history. For a good bit of the last century Moldovan wines were exported principally to the then USSR.
"The 1950s and 60s, saw a spike in production, with a massive import business to the rest of the USSR. In the 1980s, Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev enforced another prohibition, this one lasting until the early 1990s, when Moldova gained independence. Another boom. Another bust in 2006 when, at the height of territorial disputes, Russia banned all Moldovan wines, as it also did from neighboring Georgia. Recovery efforts are now in place as Moldova continues to find other export markets, mainly other parts of Eastern Europe, Great Britain, and China, while slowly gaining recognition in North America."
THANK YOU RUSSIA! These wines are not only delicious, but are incredible bargains as the Moldovan vineyards and Chateaus strive to rebuild their export market.
Cabernet Select, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc
All at the incredible price of $6.99 each, or 3 for $18
Cricova Brut sparkling for $10.99
And, a most incredible
Chateau Vartely D'or Triminer Savignon Blanc for $14.99
Ask for a taste of any of these wines this weekend.
We think you will be impressed.
