La Riojana Cooperative Wines - For $7.99
Tasting starts at 2:30pm Saturday!
La Riojana is Argentina's largest wine cooperative with 500 members and an annual production of around 4 million cases. They are the world's largest producer of certified fair trade organic wine.
La Riojana Cooperative has improved living conditions in the community by developing a water system, a secondary school, and a hospital, among other projects. The co-op is also working on creating sustainable villages with solar power and organic farms.
A contribution on consumers' behalf of $2 per case is included in the wine's sale price to help fund community programs. So when you purchase La Riojana wine, you not only get a great product at a great price, you also know your purchase helps a small producer co-op make a big difference.
The Old Creamery Co-op is proud to carry four La Riojana wines: chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and bonarda-malbec blend. Learn more about La Riojana's incredible story at www.lariojanawines.com.

From 10:00am till Noon
Julia and Matthew Shippee (from local hero band Swing Caravan): Upright bassist and guitarist/singer duo play swing, Gypsy jazz, originals, and other little gems inspired by hearing old music in new ways.
Swing Caravan is a Western Mass. favorite that makes a playful, nuanced brand of acoustic alt-jazz. Known for high energy and improvised live shows, the band has evolved into a uniquely colorful blend of Gypsy jazz influenced swing, global traditions, and original music. The bass, trumpet, drum kit, and guitar/vocal quartet specializes in reshaping songs through one unpredictable spin after another.
Swing Caravan has won the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist showcase and has played concerts at the Iron Horse, Club Passim, Cafe Lena, Old Colony at Woodstock, the Green River Festival, and the Brooklyn Djangology Festival.
Julia and Matthew live in Plainfield. Matthew is the head of the Music Department at Greenfield Community College, and Julia teaches elementary school music at the Williamsburg and Worthington schools.

From Noon till 2:00pm
Vocalist Laura Pierce and saxophonist Michael Kolodny have been professional jazz artists since the 1980s. They've performed or recorded with several jazz masters, including Jimmy Cobb, Harvie Swartz, James Williams, Joe Hunt, and Ellis Marsalis. Laura and Michael have performed at many noted venues, including the Blue Note and Carnegie Hall in New York City, Ryles and Scullers in Boston, and the Discover Jazz Festival.
Their recording "I Love Jazz" is a workshop on listening, essentially a guided tour into the elements of jazz music, the process of improvising, and the way jazz artists relate to one another. See their website for additional information or to purchase a CD.
Laura and Michael just moved to Cummington. Michael teaches jazz saxophone at Williams College, and Laura teaches piano at her home studio
and at locations in Amherst.

What I love about the Creamery!
Local Real Estate agent Carla Ness recently had a conversation with board Vice President Peg Cowen. Here's how it went:
PC: Why do you shop at Old Creamery Co-op? (OCC)
CN: Good veggies, good baked goods, and convenience. I do not live in the immediate area, so I go out of my way to stop in. [As a real estate agent] it is my go-to place when I'm selling client listings in Cummington or neighboring towns. It's a real asset. When I take clients to the Creamery they are always impressed, and sometimes it becomes a decision factor.
PC: What are your favorite Creamery products, the ones you look forward to most when you go to OCC?
CN: Peri's chocolate cupcakes! They are hard to resist. When I visit my nephew, he always asks if I have brought him a cupcake. In the winter, I get a lot of my vegetables from OCC. I also get High Lawn Farm milk at the Creamery.
PC: How often do you run into friends or other people you know at OCC?
CN: I always see people I know at the Creamery. It often takes me longer than it should. It's a warm community place, and it's great to run into people I know.
PC: Are there any items you would like to be available at OCC that you currently have to get elsewhere?
CN: Kasha, which is roasted buckwheat. I use a lot of kasha.
