The Hilltowns' Own Bill Streeter, Co-op Member-Owner #1
Bill Streeter, historian and co-author of Only One Cummington will be at the Bryant Free Library in Cummington this Saturday morning (Jan. 16) from 9:30 to 12:30 signing copies of the recently released book by Paul Schratter, My Friend Bill.
Jeanne Johns, artist (and Hilltowner whenever she is able), painted the cover for this great book. Get a two-fer Saturday and have Jeanne sign your copy as well. From the Preface by Stephanie Pasternak
"For a long time, many of us have been encouraging Bill to write a memoir of his remarkable life. This gem of a book, written by Bill's dear late friend Paul Schratter, fulfills that need. While we can't hear Bill's distinctive hilltown accent, through these pages we experience Bill Streeter's quick mind, his Yankee frugality, indefatigable work ethic, stubborn courage, optimistic outlook, and big heart."
Unable to make it this Saturday? No worries, there will be signed copies for sale at the Creamery after the event. Want to hear "Bill's distinctive hilltown accent"? You can, and at the same time learn about about the history of the Creamery and see why Bill is honored as the Co-op's member-owner number one, by viewing an interview the Creamery conducted with Bill in August 2012. Pop some non-GMO, valley-grown popcorn (available in bulk at the Creamery) and enjoy this delightful man. Got your snacks ready? Lights, camera, action! CLICK HERE. |

Chemex Coffee Maker
This 75-year-old design, developed and produced to this day in Western Mass., makes the best cup of coffee you might ever have.
The Chemex coffee maker was invented in 1941 by chemist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm. Throughout his career, he developed more than 300 patents while focusing on making everyday objects more functional, attractive, and enjoyable to use.
When designing the Chemex, Schlumbohm wanted not only to make brewing the perfect cup simple, but also to have the vessel be a thing of beauty. Being a chemist, he studied and understood clearly the chemistry behind the extraction of flavor and caffeine from coffee beans.
Made simply from one piece of borosilicate glass and adorned with a wooden collar and rawhide tie, the Chemex is pure in both form and function. It has been recognized and honored by the scientific community as well as the art and design communities. The Chemex can be found in museums throughout the world and is included in the permanent collections at the Brooklyn Museum, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
