Some great new wines on the shelves
Casa Julia from Chile produces a couple of new favorites- the Sauvignon Blanc has a bright pineapple nose, refreshing hint of citrus, and great balanced acidity. A nice wine paired with some of our creamy cheeses and Effie's Nutcakes. The Cabernet is creamy and fruity without being overbearing- you can sip it by the fire or drink with dinner and be pleased on both accounts. A new varietal- Carmenere- originally a french grape that has become a national grape of Argentina. We have added two vineyards - Arenal winery, and an organic Carmenere from Natura. You will find them soft and fruity with a roundness and good balance and a little green pepper bite in the mouth that harkens to thoughts of spiced meats, chiles, garlic and traditional Argentinian barbeque. We like it both with and without food- as one of our tasters commented, "it's just an all around good, right in the middle, unpretentious wine." We've added a few more reasonably priced Chiantis, including a very attractively priced Classico that was brought to our attention by a Member-Owner. These Chiantis make the perfect accompaniment to warm stews, tomato sauces and garlicky meats.
