More on writers and artists in the Hilltowns

STONE WALLS II, a new journal of the arts, history, and culture of the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts, announces the release of its first issue at a launch party on Sunday, December 7, from 2 to 4 pm at the Worthington Historical Society's center at 6 Williamsburg Road in Worthington. (Light fare and beverages will be offered. Open to all.)

The original Stone Walls magazine, published continually from 1975 to 1993 by a local group of teachers, historians, and artists, inspired this relaunch of Stone Walls II.

This first issue of Stone Walls II will feature an exclusive joint interview with Cummington's two national Poets Laureate, William Jay Smith and Richard Wilbur, in which they describe their experiences in these small towns of Western Massachusetts. The premiere issue will also include selected fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and graphic art. For more information, please visit www.stonewallstwo.com.

Copies of the first issue of Stone Walls II will be available for purchase at the launch party (and at the Creamery right after the launch).

To order copies of the first issue, email [email protected] or write to Stone Walls II, P.O. Box 285, Worthington, MA 01098.

Are you holding the bag?

The Creamery was the first store to sign up for the Bag Share Project. We have offered Bagshare bags since Earth Day  2008, and we repurpose the cardboard boxes that our deliveries come in. These programs allow us to avoid using over 49,000 bags per year.

A lot of people used Bagshare bags over the busy Thanksgiving week. Please check your stash and bring some bags back the next time you shop. Our supply is low and we want to keep these bags in circulation. Thank you for your caring about our environment.

Remember those in need at this time of year

The Old Creamery Co-op is proud to support the efforts of Tapestry Health again this year. Tapestry Health is a community-based nonprofit in Western Massachusetts that offers affordable, high-quality family planning services, reproductive health exams, STD screenings, HIV counseling and testing, needle exchange, insurance enrollment, outreach efforts, and a WIC nutrition program. Many of its clients are unemployed, poor, and/or homeless and cannot afford such basic items as clothing and blankets. As the days get shorter and the nights grow colder, these clients face a long winter. Help Tapestry keep them warm during this time.

Now through December 15, Tapestry has a large plastic bin for your donations just inside the west entrance to the store. Donate blankets or warm articles of clothing (socks and underwear must be new), and for "giving the heat" the Creamery will warm you up with a free cup of coffee, tea, or hot cider. Thank you.
