Help Construct the Berkshire Trail Outdoor Classroom

Berkshire Trail Elementary School needs community volunteers on Saturday, September 27,* to help construct an outdoor classroom/laboratory and natural play space. This project is supported by a grant,** and the volunteer effort will involve clearing a wooded area, constructing  an outdoor classroom pavilion, putting up a new fence and gate, and moving biodegradable materials to a compost heap.

If you cannot supply muscle or building skills, consider donating food and drink to thank the volunteers with a nice lunch. (The Creamery will be donating a tray of our famous cookies and other goodies.)

Also needed are logs with a minimum length of four feet and a diameter of 18 inches or more. These will be made into benches and "stepping-stones."

This promises to be a fun community day. Come for some or all, but come. Contact Brian Gilman and let him know what you can provide. He needs to have a count of volunteers. Call 413.634.8853 or email

We look forward to seeing everybody there.
