CHOCOLATE -
Our first tasting of the year
...was held this past Sunday evening with a very packed house. Alice Cozzolino guided the group through a chocolate journey from blossom to growth, to harvest, fermenting and drying, and finally making the chocolate, and the challenges of getting this precious bar to market. She shared a rich assortment of photographs for every step of this complex process. Alice educated the group about how responsible chocolate producers use very small farms, many women owned, and pay fare trade prices to these farmers. Then came the "tasting" part.
Alice led the group through a blind tasting of several categories of chocolate with three to five examples per category. Each participant had a score card on which they noted what they experienced and how they personally rated each chocolate sampled. The culmination of the event was the disclosure to the group of what each chocolate was they had tasted, and a tabulation of the ratings from the entire group.
All in attendance were able to purchase their favorites at a 15% discount. Great fun!
We will announce the winners in an upcoming weekly email but first we need to replenish our supply. The tasting participants bought us out.
Our next tasting will be Olive Oil on Sunday March 9 at 7:00 PM. The list is filling up fast. Sign up with the cashiers or send us an email with your name, phone number and number of attendees. We will sign you up and let you know if you are on the waiting list. A day or two prior to the tasting we will call to confirm your attendance and call those waiting if there are cancellations.
