Management Change Coming to Old Creamery Co-op

Note from Karen

Dear Wonderful Creamery Co-op Community,

After much contemplation, I have decided to step down from my position as your general manager. I have deeply enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many of you, and I will miss your smiles and words of encouragement, your ooohs of delight as the renovation continues, and the warmth and generosity that the Hilltown communities have extended to me. Soon I will be moving to New York State and will then be nearer to my mom. I leave the Co-op in good hands, and I will always be available to support and assist in any way needed. I wish you all bountiful gardens, bountiful hearts, and endless cooperative successes!

With love,

Karen

Note from the Co-op Board of Directors

Dear Community:

Our Co-op is about to undergo another transition. We are grateful for Karen Doherty's hard work over the past year and are saddened that she will leave the general manager role so soon. Karen's legacy of strong operating systems and relationships within the wider co-op community will help our Co-op far into the future. We are grateful to Karen, and the entire staff, for the creativity and commitment that has been the one constant through this recent period of intense change in the physical store as well as from our transition from private to cooperative business ownership.

The board has established an interim management team that will work with Karen over the coming weeks to prepare for her departure. This staff and board team includes Emmy Howard, Seth Isman, Michael Kalagher, Patty Kimura, and Peter Mitchell. Michael will be learning everything he can from Karen and the staff so that he can serve as acting general manger after Karen's departure and during our search for a new general manager.

The board will continue to monitor the performance of the Co-op and to ensure it is meeting the needs of its member-owners. We will remain focused on the future while also attending to emerging opportunities or challenges. Each of us remains steadfastly committed to ensuring that the Co-op remains in good hands.

One thing that we've learned since the Creamery began its journey to Co-op is that we are operating from a place of strength. Our foundation and our future is the community that has stepped up, again and again, to keep our Creamery going and to sustain all that we choose to do together. We're so much more than a store.

As we prepare to navigate through this new transition we want and need your support. We welcome your ideas, constructive critique, concerns, and hopes and fears. You can send us notes to [email protected]. We welcome your time -- either through participation in volunteer work parties or at special in-store activities -- or through participation in committee work (standing committees that would welcome additional volunteers include community/outreach, finance, and personnel). And we encourage your continued patronage of the store so that we can continue to meet our business goals and objectives.

With appreciation for Karen's tremendous dedication and hard work along with best wishes for her next adventure, and with appreciation for our Co-op staff and community, we remain yours in service to the Co-op.

Cheese of the Week

This week's tasting cheese is Tobasi from Cricket Creek Farm in Williamstown. Tobasi is a Tobias semisoft raw cow's milk cheese. This square-shaped cheese has a washed rind with a rich orange patina. It has a buttery and smooth texture, with earthy, grassy notes. This cheese absolutely delicious and is perfect for your cheeseboard! Serve with some crusty bread or crisp apple. Try it with a dry white wine...you won't be disappointed!

Come in this Saturday and have a taste! Remember, we will take 10 percent off the regular price all day. Thank you!

Many items are on sale every week at the Creamery. Look for the brightly colored shelf tags. These items are 15%-45% off regular prices. We work hard to find bargains on many different items, including staple groceries, treats like chocolate, juices, refrigerated items, personal care products, and supplements. The shelf tags indicate when the sale price expires. Some sale items are one-time opportunities that remain on sale until sold out. Many are purchasing opportunities that can be replenished over several weeks at great prices. Enjoy the savings!
