Lots of Local Produce at the Creamery Co-op

greens It's Fourth of July week, and we all know that the bounty from local farms has been well watered. You can partake of this local bonanza by picking up fresh, local produce at the Creamery. Right now we are featuring produce from the Kitchen Garden in Sunderland: summer squash mix, scallions, red butterhead lettuce, green leaf lettuce, bright lights Swiss chard, and beautiful lettuce mix. In addition, all of our deli sandwiches are featuring lettuce from Patty Flat Farm in Ashfield!

Come in and treat yourself to the best the area has to offer, and help support local farming in the process!

Acure Organics Coming Soon!

A new and wonderful line of health and beauty products is on the way! We at the Old Creamery Co-op are constantly on the lookout for great products, and we are very excited to Acure logo introduce you to Acure Organics. Acure is a family-owned business that prides itself on providing high-quality products that are not only focused on fair trade and certified organic ingredients, but that are free from animal testing, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, harmful preservatives, and artificial colors. And the company's production is 100% carbon neutral, using Green-e Certified Renewable Energy through Carbonfund.org to offset all aspects of operations.

Acure's philosophy? "We believe that each and every one of us can make an enormous impact on the world. By making small changes in the items we use, the purchases we make, and the way we approach each day, we all really can change the world! Each day you vote with your dollars, supporting the companies that share your values. We believe in creating a sustainable company culture, one where each decision is carefully weighed based upon the impact. We believe in pursuing a triple bottom line. People and planet are just as important as profit."

Yay to all that!! Sounds a lot like our Co-op principles.

I've tried their line of shampoos and was very happy with how they work. The fragrance is light, fresh, and not at all overpowering. The pricing is very reasonable considering the efforts Acure goes to ensure a clean, pure product, when compared to other similar products in the marketplace.

We will continue to search the universe to find you the best products. If you try the Acure products, do let us know, as always, how you like them! We will start out with a few, and if they are well received we'll add more of this company's line.

Correction

Astute readers of last week's email were quick to point out that there is no such thing as a "Nobel Prize for Business." Indeed. This phrase is used informally by some to refer to awards from the Business for Peace Foundation in Oslo, Norway. To read about the organization and its awards, click here.

Cheese of the Week

Hey it's The Fourth of July weekend and what better or more delicious way is there to celebrate America than with this fantastic All-American cheese?? Saturday is cheese day at the Creamery Co-op, when the featured cheese is offered at a 10% discount. This week's cheese is:

Grafton 4-year-old cheddar; an outstanding hand crafted cheddar with a pronounced, mature sharp flavor, smooth clean finish and crumbly texture.

Nothing beats classic, hand crafted, whole milk, Vermont cheddar naturally aged for a very long time under perfect conditions!

Grafton four-year-old sharp cheddar is really delicious. It's fantastic for sandwiches and also for your cheeseboard. So come down Saturday

and have a taste. I'm sure you won't be disappointed and remember we'll take 10% off the price all day.
Thank you! - Peter

New Food Writer Joins Grist

The environmental news and commentary website Grist (you know, "A beacon in the smog") has a new food writer, Nathanael Johnson. Here's a bit of his first piece for Grist: "I think we need to make every acre produce as much as possible, but that shouldn't be our only goal. Our food should make the world cleaner and more beautiful rather than uglier and more polluted. Our food should support a broad middle class rather than tycoons and destitute laborers. Our food shouldn't require the torture of animals. Our food should make us healthier." To read more, click here.

Many items are on sale every week at the Creamery. Look for the brightly colored shelf tags. These items are 15%-45% off regular prices. We work hard to find bargains on many different items, including staple groceries, treats like chocolate, juices, refrigerated items, personal care products, and supplements. The shelf tags indicate when the sale price expires. Some sale items are one-time opportunities that remain on sale until sold out. Many are purchasing opportunities that can be replenished over several weeks at great prices. Enjoy the savings!
