Reward! Wanted! General Manager! Every day we are getting closer to beginning operations as a Co-op! The Creamery and the Co-op would not be where they are today without the foresight and devotion of Alice and Amy. Now we must evolve their vision with new ideas for the benefit of staff, member-owners, and the wider community over time. So we've initiated our search for a General Manager. This is an immediate opening. We're looking for someone with senior management experience in a retail food business and strong skills in financial management, marketing, problem solving, communication, and community building. We seek an inspired leader who embraces challenge and who has vision, compassion, and a sense of humor. The job posting and a link to the detailed job description can be found by clicking here. Of course, we're doing all of the usual advertising, outreach, and recruitment for this important job. But we know that word of mouth often works best. Can you help us spread the word? The Co-op Board will provide a $250 gift certificate redeemable at the Old Creamery Co-op to any person who helps us find the applicant we hire. So please, send us the names of individuals you think we should invite to apply for this position. Let's work together to find a terrific General Manager for our Co-op! |

Member-Owner Appreciation Is Ongoing
Don't forget: The Creamery's member-owner appreciation is in full swing and runs through August 15. All member-owners will receive a 10% discount on all items (excluding alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, and newspapers) on the day of their choice.
Come to the Creamery, stock up on all your favorites, buy those splurge treats, choose sale items for even greater discounts, and receive 10% off. Tell the cashier you're a member-owner and would like to use your one-day-only discount. You can come in multiple times on that day, but the discount applies to that day only. And if you shop on Saturday or Sunday this weekend, you will not pay state sales tax on crafts, books, and general merchandise due to the tax-free weekend in Massachusetts.
And if you're not yet a Co-op member-owner, there's still time to become one and take advantage of the 10% discount. Become a founding member-owner through August 15, and you too can choose your own appreciation day! To sign up, click here and download the membership brochure. Thank you!

Cheese of the Week!
This week's sampling cheese is Grafton Clothbound Cheddar from Grafton Village Cheese in Vermont. Using antibiotic-free, raw cow's milk and a non-GMO rennet, Clothbound Cheddar is a classic milled curd cheddar, wrapped in cheesecloth and aged in Grafton's caves for a minimum of six months. Cloth binding is a traditional method of making cheddar, allowing the cheese to interact with the air as it develops its sophisticated, complex, and earthy flavor. Grafton Clothbound Cheddar is known for bold flavor with nut and mushroom notes.
Visit the Old Creamery this Saturday and try a sample. During the sampling, we'll take 10% off the purchase price! Hope to see you there!

Summer Recipe: From the Archive
As summer shrinks to a smaller and smaller block on the calendar, we offer this blast from the past, just in time for making the most of the remaining season. Last August, Rachel Maddow graced us with her presence at our Co-op fundraiser. She also graced Alice with her recipe for the perfect Mojito, written on the back of Alice's name tag. Those of you who know Alice's renowned drinking prowess (an ounce or two of wine per month!) will more fully appreciate this: Alice said that she would most certainly make and drink Rachel's mojito within the following month. Hmmm, could this now be an annual rite? For a link to the mojito recipe, please click here.

Learn about the 2012 Farm Bill
The Environmental Working Group (EWG)--those good folks who stand up to big business and give you the straight scoop on what's in your sunscreen and on your food--asks Americans to take action on the five-year farm bill now before the US House of Representatives. "This is our big chance to change our nation's broken food policies," writes the EWG. "If you want a food and farm system that focuses on healthy food and clean water instead of misguided support for corporate agribusiness and chemical-dependent mega farms, then policymakers need to hear from you." You can learn more and "take action" at EWG's website.

Following is one of a series of weekly articles in recognition of the United Nations' International Year of Cooperatives.
Mmmmm, Chocolate--Cooperatively
The Grenada Chocolate Company, a tree-to-bar organic chocolate-making cooperative on the cocoa-producing Caribbean island of Grenada, has sought to revolutionize the cocoa-chocolate system that typically keeps cocoa production separate from chocolate-making and therefore takes advantage of cocoa farmers. To learn more about this cooperative enterprise, including the story of the Tres Hombres sailing ship that's used to transport some of the chocolate, click here.
