Management Transition Team Created

Your Co-op Board of Directors has assembled a working group composed of current Creamery employees and board members to continue planning for the transition to Co-op. We're so pleased that Judy Bowerman, Emmy Howard, and Peter Mitchell will, along with Alice and Amy, begin helping the board shape the management structure and systems that our Co-op will require to carry on the good work we've all come to expect from the Creamery and to achieve the goals outlined in our business plan.

Cheese of the Week!

This week's sampling cheese is Mahon, from Spain. Mahon is a raw cow's milk cheese from the island of Menorca and is one of the few cow's milk cheeses producedMahon in Spain. Mahon offers a lovely sharpness, and its lemony, salty flavors evoke the rural Mediterranean seascape. Its rind has a hard, crumbly, cheddar-like consistency that darkens as the wheel ages. Mahon is full-flavored and smooth when young and tangy and intense when older, but it is always delicious. It never fails to impress!

Stop in at the Old Creamery and try some this Saturday! As always, our featured Saturday cheese is 10% off during the sampling time. Hope to see you there.

Alice's Recipe: Chicken Soup / Chicken Noodle Soup

I've gotten a couple of requests this past week for a Chicken Soup recipe. So many of us are struggling with respiratory infections right now. This soup is nourishing and delicious. Our gardens are supplying us with young versions of most of the ingredients needed for this soup. We sell Bionaturae organic egg noodles at the Creamery; they are delicate and flavorful, perfect for this soup.

Amy's out picking raspberries for us to make jam, so I think biscuits (a conduit for the fresh jam) are in our future today! It's another glorious day to be outside in the warm sunshine. We'll catch up on some garden maintenance chores; plant another round of beans, beets, and carrots; harvest more chamomile, mint, and lemon balm to dry; and maybe even lay in the field, stare at the clouds, and daydream. Enjoy the sun, and pray for rain. Happy cooking, and happy daydreaming to you all!

Help Us Deliver

The Creamery buys fresh produce from the farm stand on Bridge Road in Northampton and could use some help getting this bounty to Cummington. If anyone routinely drives by the farm stand on Saturdays or Sundays between noon and 4 p.m. and then returns to the Hilltowns, please talk to Alice. The Creamery would trade a delivery for some fresh corn or berries (and other trades are possible!). Thank you!

Food Co-ops: Democracy, Community, and Sustainability Come TogetherIYOC logo

There has been a resurgence in food co-ops the past several years. People have different reasons for pursuing quality, nutritious, locally sourced food. The recent unstable economy has driven some families to be more selective about what they eat, and some share a collective interest in sustaining their own control over their neighborhood businesses.
