Give Back This Thanksgiving
Operation Holiday Cheer includes programs designed to brighten the lives of children and families in Moreno Valley that are experiencing an economically challenging time. Donations and volunteers needed. Individuals or groups that are interested in dropping off toys, assisting financially, or volunteering, please contact Community Services Officer Manier at 951.486.6716.
Every year, tens of thousands of children experience Christmas morning with no gifts to open. To bring smiles to these children, the firefighters in Moreno Valley, in cooperation with CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire and KABC Channel 7, host a "Spark of Love Toy Drive". Residents that wish to be part of this special event are encouraged to drop off a new, unwrapped toy or sports equipment at any local fire station to support this worthwhile cause. For eligibility requirements to receive toys for a child in need, please contact the Moreno Valley Community Assistance Program at 951-485-7792. For any other questions regarding the "Spark of Love Toy Drive" call 951-486-6780. Your donation to the "Spark of Love Toy Drive" will be accepted at any of the City's seven fire stations through December 24, 2014.
There are lots or opportunities to volunteer or donate this holiday season, including: food drive, Thanksgiving dinner, bell ringing, food sorting & packing, Christmas food and toy assistance distribution. Click here for more information

Moreno Valley Earns Credit Rating Upgrade
The City of Moreno Valley is pleased to announce that it has earned a credit rating upgrade to "A+" from "A", with a stable outlook from Standard & Poor's in connection with its Lease Revenue Refunding Bonds, Series 2014. The upgrade was based on the City's improving financial performance according to the Standard & Poor analyst. Standard & Poor's cited the following credit strengths as part of their rationale:
- Very strong management team and strong policies
- Solid liquidity position based on the City's fund balance
- Revenues exceeded expenditures for FY 2013/14
- Strong budget flexibility
The City Council and City Manager's actions to balance the City's General Fund budget with the current two-year balanced budget was a key factor in achieving the strong rating result. Standard & Poor's also recognized that the City did not have a balanced budget in recent years, but the effort of the City Council and management team to strategize, plan and deliver on a three-year deficit elimination plan has brought revenues in line with expenditures. The City has emerged from the recession financially strong, with reasonable reserves, steady revenue growth and a strong balance sheet based on the efforts of the City Council and City staff.
This rating affirms the City's previous strong rating based on a review performed by Standard & Poor's in December 2013. The rating at that time stepped up from an A rating with stable outlook to an A rating with a positive outlook. Click here for more information.

Click to watch 2014 Moreno Valley Veterans Day Ceremony at Moreno Valley Veterans Memorial |
The City of Moreno Valley is pleased to host the 7th Annual Veterans Day ceremony led by Mayor Jesse L. Molina at the Moreno Valley Veterans Memorial, located at the Civic Center - Frederick St. and Alessandro Blvd., on Tuesday, November 11, 3:30 p.m.
The Program
The memorable program includes:
- Riverside National Cemetery's Semper Fi #1 Memorial Honor Detail will present colors and perform the "13-Fold" Ceremony. The Semper Fi #1 Memorial Honor Detail is made up of retired or former Marines who volunteer their time to honor veterans that are interred at Riverside National Cemetery as well as help create distinction among community events by maintaining the honorable diplay and handling of the United States flag.
- The Moreno Valley Master Chorale and violin students from Tuning Sounds, a local music and performing arts program, are performing several patriotic songs and melodies. The Moreno Valley Master Chorale was founded in 1986 to produce, promote, and preserve the live choral experience and is active with several annual performances and participation in many City of Moreno Valley and regional events.
- Members of the Knights of Columbus, A.F. Chelbana Assembly will lay the wreath in honor of all who have served the country. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization that offers men leadership training through active involvement and volunteer opportunities in the parish of St. Christopher's and throughout the community.
There will be golf cart service for members of the community who need assistance getting from the parking lot to the Memorial. The ceremony will be followed by an informal reception with light refreshments and displays of artwork and thoughtful letters prepared by Moreno Valley students.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive
To support the hospitality service provided by volunteers at March Air Reserve Base's Hangar 385 for departing and returning war zone soldiers, the City will be accepting contributions of peanut butter (creamy or chunky) and jelly (strawberry or grape). Since 2004, soldiers have been greeted and sent off by volunteers who work hard to be that "little bit of home" for so many who need it before they leave or as soon as they return.

Be Safe this Thanksgiving
Important safety information for when using a turkey fryer:
The delicious deep-fried turkey has quickly grown in popularity but safety experts are concerned that backyard chefs may be sacrificing fire safety for good taste.
When using a turkey flyer, please use the following tips:
- Turkey fryers should always be used outdoors a safe distance from buildings and any other flammable materials.
- Never use turkey fryers in a garage or on a wooden deck.
- Make sure the fryers are used on a flat surface to reduce accidental tipping.
- Never leave the fryer unattended. Most units do not have thermostat controls. If you do not watch the fryer carefully, the oil will continue to heat until it catches fire.
- Never let children or pets near the fryer even if it is not in use. The oil inside the cooking pot can remain dangerously hot hours after use.
- To avoid oil spillover, do not overfill the fryer.
- Use well-insulated potholders or oven mitts when touching pot or lid handles. If possible, wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from oil splatter.
- Keep an all-purpose fire extinguisher nearby. Never use water to extinguish a grease fire. If the fire is manageable, use your all-purpose fire extinguisher. If the fire increases, immediately call the fire department for help.
