2014 marks the second year Moreno Valley hosts the compelling West Coast Thunder Memorial Day Bike Run / Parade along Moreno Valley's Sunnymead Boulevard

 

Motorcycles leave Riverside Harley-Davidson at precisely 9:11 a.m. heading to Riverside National Cemetery, and then on to Moreno Valley exiting SR-60 at Frederick St. /Pigeon Pass Rd. at approximately 10:15. The hour long parade proceeds eastbound along Sunnymead Blvd. and re-enters SR-60 on Heacock St.

Topping off the day, Moreno Valley's annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial provides another meaningful opportunity for residents to remember the sacrifice of our military servicemen and women, and their families.

Featured speaker:

 Colonel Russell A. Muncy, Commander,

452d Air Mobility Wing, March Air Reserve Base. 

 

Other special guests include the Moreno Valley City Council, the Canyon Springs High School JROTC Honor Guard, North Ridge Elementary School Prime-Time Singers, Moreno Valley Unified School District student speakers, Moreno Valley Master Chorale, Moreno Valley Community Band Wall of Trumpets, Knights of Columbus, A.F. Chelbana Assembly, and the Semper Fi #1 Honor Detail.

The City of Moreno Valley will be accepting contributions of peanut butter and jelly in support of March Air Reserve Base's Hangar 385 hospitality service for departing and returning war zone soldiers.

The City is actively seeking Moreno Valley college students ages 18 - 25 to apply for a position on the new Emerging Leaders Council.

 

Established by the City Council on April 8th, the purpose of the Emerging Leaders Council is to:

 

 Identify college students with the desire and potential to become community leaders

 

Educate those students in local and regional government policies and activities

Focus their efforts on service in the Moreno Valley community.   Applications are due to the City Clerk's Office by May 16 and are available online at the City's website: www.moval.org

Moreno Valley Animal Shelter Vying for $100k
Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is one of 50 animal shelters across the nation to compete for a $100k grand prize donation via the Rachel Ray Challenge (link to http://challenge.aspcapro.org/). The challenge is to adopt more pets between June 1 and August 31 than were adopted in the same period in 2013.  We need your help! Please come out with your friends and family to the first of several special events planned on                                                  Sunday, June 1 and Monday, June 2 for special discounted adoption rates.

The Parks & Community Services Department is looking for bands to perform at MoVal Rocks! Battle of the Bands on August 7.

 

All band members must be at least 16 years of age.  Entry application with CD, mp3 file, or web link must be received by June 26 by email, mail or personal delivery to the Conference and Recreation Center.
