It's been a tremendous year for MAPA. The association has experienced growth in membership and increased participation at events.
In May, 3M sponsored the Parking & Baseball Lunch & Learn at Washington Nationals Park. MAPA experienced record attendance at this event and had to close registration due to the sell-out of tickets. Attendees enjoyed a presentation by 3M, followed by a ballpark lunch buffet. We were able to watch the National's win despite the 2 hour rain delay.
June brought the Annual Summer Golf Tournament at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, MD. More than 50 golfers participated in the tournament this year. The tournament raises money for the the MAPA Scholarship Fund. Each year, MAPA awards financial scholarships to deserving students of member organizations.
This years Scholarship Winners were Alyssa Benson (Member: Control Systems, Inc.), Chris Balch (Member: CVM) and Tyler Brown (Member: Desman, Inc.). Each of these students demonstrated outstanding academic and personal achievements that merited awards.
On September 16, MAPA hosted its Annual Fall Golf Outing at Greystone Golf Course in Baltimore. This year's winning team was LAZ Parking.
The golf outing is the kick off to MAPA's Annual Fall Conference. This year, MAPA moved to the historic Westminster Hall in Baltimore (Edgar Allen Poe is buried outback.) Twenty exhibitors and sponsors displayed the latest products and services to more than 85 attendees. The program focused on sustainability with an overview on Green Garage Certification and the University of Maryland's TDM program. Attendees ended the conference day by touring the Baltimore Campus to see first hand the University TDM program operation.
Afterwards, attendee's met up at Camden Yards for a Conference Closing Reception for the Parking & Baseball event sponsored by Parking Today. Sixty-five people stayed after the conference to watch the Orioles, (just a day too late from clinching) take on the Blue Jays.
Rounding out the year we have 2105 Board of Director Elections and on January 21, the MAPA Board will meet for its Annual Planning Meeting. This year the meeting is being hosted by Mark Pace at Montgomery College. If you are interested in becoming more involved consider running for a Board seat.
As always please feel free to contact myself or any of the other board members with your ideas and suggestions. Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season
See You next Year!
