Letter from the President

Thanks to the MAPA Board of Director's, Conference Planning Committee and all of the MAPA members for making the 2013 Annual Fall Conference a true success! With over 100 parking professionals attending the conference at the University of Baltimore and larger than expected attendance at our two Parking & Baseball events, this increased participation provides our board and me the validation to continue with "affordable, one-day programs, with time for learning and networking."

Just as important, our events are not just for upper management, but also for all employees within your organization. This allows your staff to see that parking is a thriving and growing business.

The MAPA Board of Directors will be gathering in January for our yearly planning meeting to set the agenda for the New Year.  If there are any events you would like MAPA to host or topics you are interested in hearing about in 2014, let us know.

I am hoping everyone has a safe and healthy Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!  We look forward to seeing you all in 2014.

Larry J. Cohen, CAPP

MAPA's Fall Conference Wrap-up

MAPA held its Annual Fall Conference on October 23rd at the University of Baltimore. Over 100 attendees listened to an informative presentation by our Keynote Speaker, Barbara Chance, Chance Management Advisors, Inc.  Barbara presented a case study on The Shared Parking Challenge at Swarthmore College: A Study in Institutional and Neighborhood (Town-Gown) Parking Planning Issues.

Christine Banning, National Parking Association, gave a great presentation on Your Career in Parking - Knowledge, Networks, Advancement: Building a Successful Career in the Parking Industry.

Two new topics this year, were a panel discussion by Doug Graham, T2 Systems, Inc. and Chris Yigit, Genetec/Auto Vu on License Plate Enabled Parking Systems and
Rachel Yoka, Tim Haahs & Associates, Inc. and our own Mark Pace, Montgomery College delivered the

IPI Sustainability Road Show Presentation.

Along with the timely and informative educational sessions, conference goers had the opportunity to mingle with and speak to 22 different exhibitors that represented products and services that included efficient lighting, meters, revenue and access control, facility maintenance, consulting and much, much more.
Raffle Winner Mark Pace

MAPA events are a great place to network and the Fall Conference was no exception. There were attendees, speakers and exhibitors from ten different states representing universities, governmental & municipal agencies, private operators, and vendors. The diversity of the participants was fantastic and made for a great place to find new opportunities regardless of what sector of the parking industry one was from.

MAPA Fall Golf Outing

MAPA held its first fall golf outing October 22 at the University of Maryland, College Park Golf Course.  Some 25 golfers enjoyed an afternoon of golf followed by an evening reception and networking hour at the golf course to kick off the Annual Fall Conference the next day.

As with the summer tournament the proceeds benefit the MAPA Scholarship Fund.  Every June  MAPA awards deserving students of MAPA members scholarships to continue their educational dreams.

If you are interested in offering and education presentation please contact Dawn Newman, MAPA Administrator for guidelines.
