The MAPA Conference Planning Committee has successfully planned another Annual Fall Conference packed with presentations on parking and transportation solutions and innovations. The Fall Golf Tournament is taking place on October 22 at the University of MD, College Park Golf Course.  This course was so popular at the summer tournament that we re-booked it for fall.


I would like to formally welcome Howard Benson, Control Systems, Inc. to the MAPA Board of Directors (his bio is below.) Howard replaces outgoing Board Member, Terrence Campbell who has recently retired from American University. Terry was an active contributor to the MAPA Board. Terry we wish you well!

Joins the MAPA Board of Directors

 Howard Bensonis the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Control Systems, Inc., one of the largest reseller of Federal APD Parking Revenue & Access Control Equipment and ZipPark Event & Valet Management Systems in the nation. Howard has over 22 years of professional experience in the parking industry including working for Kinney Parking, Central Parking and Control Systems Inc/ZipPark.


Howard's success in parking operations aptly prepared him for his current responsibilities which include engaging new business development initiatives, facilitating intricate system sales, and providing client consultation services to improve operational efficiency. He leads sales efforts in the New York, New Jersey and Washington DC markets.


Howard is a member of the National Parking Association, International Parking Institute, Metropolitan Parking Association, and the National Valet Parking Association.

Keynote Address - The Shared Parking Challenge at Swarthmore College: A Study in Institutional and Neighborhood (Town-Gown) Parking Planning Issues

This session is equally relevant to institutions and their host municipalities in a number of ways, not the least of which is the development of solutions that address institutional development needs while preserving the essential fabric of the host community. Specific goals and objectives for the session for the presentation include:

  • How to identify the needed references, resources and practical approaches to quantify future parking demand for a mixed use development;
  • Techniques for minimizing the number of new parking spaces needed; and
  • Ways to effectively meet the concerns of local citizens and the institution itself with respect to accessing new campus destinations while preserving the fabric of the surrounding community

IPI Sustainability Committee Road Show: Interactive Presentation

This interactive presentation will be led by members of the IPI Sustainability committee. The co-presenters

will share 30 minutes of tailored sustainability content. The presentation will focus on a variety of topics, particular sectors (healthcare, municipal, etc.) and will offer national level educational content. The presentation will be followed by 30 minutes of Q & A on sustainability topics from the presentation, or wherever the session leads us. This is a forum to capture valuable regional information on sustainability, trends, and best practices, and share relevant experience and case studies.

Dear Mr. Cohen,
It is with extreme gratitude that I write this letter of thanks to you and MAPA. My name is Keith Hacke and I am the proud recipient of the Middle Atlantic Parking Association Scholarship Award.
