Letter from the President

Thanks to all our members for making the 2012 Annual Fall Conference one of the best attended in MAPA's history.  With over 110 parking professionals at conference at the University of Baltimore and larger than expected attendance at our two Parking & Baseball events, this increased participation provides our board and me the validation to continue with "affordable, one-day programs, with time for learning and networking."  Just as important, our events are not just for upper management, but also for all employees within your organization. This allows your staff to see the "bigger picture", that parking is a thriving and growing business.  What better morale booster than to allow a deserving staff member to attend a MAPA event in 2013? (OK, more money would be nice...)

The MAPA board will be gathering in January for our yearly retreat to set the agenda for the New Year.  If there are any topics you are interested in hearing about in 2013, let us know.  I am hoping everyone has a safe and healthy New Year!  We look forward to seeing you all in 2013.

Larry J. Cohen, CAPP

MAPA President

MAPA's Fall Conference a Tremendous Success

MAPA Held its annual Fall Conference on October 24 at the University of Baltimore where the theme for the event was "A Peek into Parking's Future."

Over 100 attendees listened to an informative presentation by our  Keynote Speaker, Michael Klein on the Shoup Model: The High Cost of Free Parking", Mobile Apps, Risk Management, and Cloud Computing. Both Christine Banning, National Parking Association and Henry Wallmeyer, International Parking Institute gave outstanding presentations on Parking Trends and IPI's Parking Progress Report and Parking Power Toolbox.

Exhibitors Barry Davis & Frank Del Monaco, IPS Group

Along with the timely and informative speaker sessions, conference goers had the opportunity to mingle with and speak to 21 different exhibitors that represented products and services that included efficient lighting, Meters, EV charging, revenue control and access, facility maintenance, way finding, and much, much more.

Lastly, as always, MAPA events are a great place to network and the Fall Conference was no exception. There were attendees, speakers and exhibitors from twelve different states representing universities, governmental & municipal agencies, private operators, and vendors. The diversity of the participants was fantastic and made for a great place to find new opportunities regardless of what sector of the parking industry one was from.

MAPA continues to raise the bar for its conferences  with powerful programming and excellent participation among its members, so mark your calendar for the next Fall Conference on October 23, 2013 at the University of Baltimore!
