Cari italiani e cari amici dell'Italia,
Nicola De Santis

Dear Italians and friends of Italy,
This month's newsletter is rich of events with a common denominator: our beautiful country and its culture, artists, composers and scientists.
In particular I would like to point out the "conversation with Dacia Maraini" which will take place on March 4th at the Dante Alighieri in Cambridge where we will have the chance to discuss, among other things, her new book. In addition, the next guest for our Aperitivo Scientifico will be Federico Musto CEO of Arduino srl who will enlighten us about his own professional experience and his vision regarding the developments of the Italian electronic board. Among the theatrical events I would like to bring your attention to the representation in English of the opera Mistero Buffo by Nobel Price Dario Fo, from March 18th to 26th at the Modern Theater.
I also want to take this opportunity to inform all the Italians voters residing here that on April 17th 2016 we will have the Referendum about the repel of the law regulating the permits and concessions about exploring and drilling oil and gas within 12 miles from the coast. As usual all the voters residing abroad and registered at the AIRE (Vital Records of Italians residing abroad) will receive their electoral ballot directly at home.
Greetings and happy reading to all!
Nicola De Santis

Mistero Buffo by Dario Fo
| click on image for more info |
Mistero Buffo, by Italian Nobel Laureate Dario Fo, revives the Medieval Mystery Play, with side-splitting modern interpretations of stories from the Gospels. But these "mysteries" turn these familiar tales upside down.
A series of virtuoso solo turns, the pieces "flip the script" on conventional morality and sanctimony, revealing the all too common hypocrisy of organized religion, revealing where true Christian values lie in the hearts of ordinary people. It's sometimes shocking, provocative, and relentlessly hilarious.
The cast comprises some of the most celebrated actors in the Boston area: Remo Airaldi, Benjamin Evett, and Debra Wise. It's directed by prize-winning director Bob Scanlan, who also created this original American translation, which captures the joy, fun, and wicked humor of the original.
The production is part of a Festival celebrating the 90th birthday of Dario Fo. Don't miss this comic tour de force.

Quarterly Review - Accademia della Cucina Italiana
Osteria Nino - Burlington, Ma

Commitment and Research for the protection of the traditions of Italian cuisine
The Accademia Italiana della Cucina was born - naturally at the dinner table, as is often the case with important things - when a group of friends, united at dinner on the 29th of July of 1953, heard and agreed with the idea which Orio Vergani had long been nurturing: that of founding an academy with the task of safeguarding, together with the traditions of Italian cuisine, the culture of the civilisation of the table, lively and active expression of the entire Nation.
Review of Osteria Nino, located on 19 3rd Avenue, Burlington, MA
Our delegation of 16 diners recently got together at Osteria Nino, located in Burlington, MA. The overall experience has been great. This osteria has been established only 5 months ago and its menu is massively influenced by the typical Roman dishes. Both the general manager and the culinary director of Osteria Nino have extensive work experience in Rome where they met and decided to create this idea of "typical Roman style dishes" around the Boston area. The service is fabulous while the actual size of the osteria is big enough to accommodate private and non-private functions. They have multiple wood ovens inside and outside (for both winter and summer wood oven recipes). We were particularly impressed by the quality of their "Primi", boasting delicious Roman style "tonnarelli cacio e pepe" or cavatelli all'amatriciana" or even " gnocchi al tartufo". "Porchetta" was also cooked to perfection. The pairing of exquisite wines with each dish was also superb. Finally, the "torta al cioccolato fondente" prepared without flour was simply to die for. Parking (plenty) and convenience (right off Rt. 128 North) make the location easy to access. Overall, our accademici found Osteria Nino and its employees a very good place to taste authentic Roman style recipes. For these reason we decided to award Osteria Nino with our unique sticker to be affixed on their entrance door.
