Cari italiani e cari amici dell'Italia,

In particolare desidero ricordare le azioni a supporto all'AP (Advanced Placement) Program in italiano.

Dear Italians and dear friends of Italy,

The month of February continues with a packed schedule of events. I would like to especially point out the evening of February the 13th, Italian night at the Boston Children's Museum. The evening, dedicated to all Italian and Italian-American families in the Boston area, will celebrate Il Carnevale.

Of particular interest to all Italians present in the world of academia will be the "How to successfully transition from academia to industry" seminar, organized alongside with PIB (Italian Professionals in Boston). This will be the second installment in a series of four seminars regarding topics of sure interest to our community living in New England.

Special mention goes out to the promotion of the Italian language, an important and basic facet of our national identity. I want to specifically bring your attention to the action being taken in support of the Italian AP (Advanced Placement) Program. The objective by 2016, on a national level, is to have 2500 Italian exams taken. We are close to reaching this important goal but we still need everyone to make one last effort. To reach our target we need specific resources and in such we have asked every association to make a contribution, however small or large. I am delighted to announce that certain associations have already expressed their will to participate in this initiative and I'm sure that many others will join the ranks in the months to come. Thank you everyone for your continued cooperation.

Sending my best regards and happy reading to everyone!
Nicola De Santis

The new app of the educational office

For the last couple of weeks it has been available for free download  the new APP for iPhone and android users launched by the Scholastic Office at the Consulate General of Italy in Boston.

A new "tool" to strengthen the community formed by the many Italian language teachers and all the folks interested in our language. A flexible and "modern" tool that could bring all of these realities together to shed light on the educational world and on the great potential for the many professionals that love the Italian language.

The app allows the user to easily follow and read up on news and events that are of interest to the world of education, many times coming from schools themselves. A calendar with all of the appointments for the month will be available for viewing and by clicking the RadioTEACH icon the user will be able to listen to the newborn podcast TUTTINCLASSE!, the biweekly recording of school related news with parts especially designed for students who are just becoming acquainted with the Italian language. Furthermore, you will also be able to comfortably read our newsletter right on your cell phone.

To download the App: Iphone owners will want to type "ufficio scolastico Boston" into the App Store, while android users will do the same but in the Google Store instead. More detailed information can be found on education office's  website www.usicboston.it

Harvard Art Museums' renovation and expansion project by architect Renzo Piano
Now Open | 32 Quincy Street, Cambridge
Courtyard of the new Harvard Art Museums
Museums reopen, reimagined

Sitting on the third-floor of the Harvard Art Museums' arcade last spring, as sunshine spilled in from the new giant skylight above, architect Renzo Piano discussed a quality near to his heart: beauty.

"The frontier between beauty and civic life ... is not strong," said the Italian "master of light and lightness" during a break from touring the renovated Harvard Art Museums, an inspired reimagining of the University's home for its imposing collection. Musing further, Piano said that museums can help to bridge that divide. "Beauty," he proposed, "may save the world."
