Give a Warm Panther Welcome!
We are happy to welcome Dr. Paul Poommipanit and Dr. Sarah Mowry and their son, Nathan to our EDS family. Nathan joined Mrs. Moody's young three-year-olds class, and is having a blast. Nathan is pictured below (with the big smile) in the middle.

Make It and Play It

Ms. Hancock's sixth grade music students built musical instruments for their final projects. The assignment allowed students to explore the differences between pitches and notes. Students also received extra credit if they could play an actual song on the home made instrument.
Thomas Dozier built a drum out of a metal propane tank, and Thomas Lee built a "thong-o-phone" out of varying lengths of plastic pipes. He played it by striking a flip-flop against the pipe ends.

In the Spotlight

Four EDS faculty members attended the NSTA
(National Science Teachers 2012 Conference) in Atlanta last week. The theme was Science: Passport for Success, focusing on three strands:

1. STEM- multidisciplinary teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
2. Differentiation of Instruction in Science
3. Formative and Authentic Assessment

Eighth graders were joined by their grandparents at chapel last Friday for the annual Eighth Grade Grandparents Day. After chapel, the students had brunch with their grandparents. Student artwork was on display, and books of student writings were given to grandparents as gifts. It was a wonderful event!

The Trammell advisory collected 23 bikes for the Santa Wheels project!  Thanks to everyone who contributed bikes and to
Tori Boardman and Lynn Smith for delievering the truckload to Goodwill. The students will spend a few Saturdays refurbishing the bikes and will help distribute them to CSRA children for Christmas.

Each of the three Outward Bound crews reunited last Wednesday morning to enjoy some circle time. They discussed the Four Pillars over a bagel breakfast and wrote in their journals.

The preschool Halloween parade was a howling success! Click here to view the full slideshow.
