Virginia Oral Health Report Card: Virginia Receives C+

The Virginia Oral Health Report Card was unveiled today at the sixth annual Virginia Oral Health Summit, where more than 200 stakeholders from dentistry, academia, medicine, business and philanthropy shared ideas, were informed by data and research, and learned about community outreach efforts to improve the oral health of Virginians. The Report Card is the first in the nation and the product of a seven-month, inclusive process involving a diverse work group of stakeholders from across the Commonwealth.
Stakeholders worked through consensus to identify nine salient indicators that measure prevention, collaboration, health status, and coverage, each of which can be tracked over time.
Among the nine indicators, the Report Card reveals that only 38 percent of adults have dental coverage. The Report Card also notes that less than 25 percent of Virginia's most vulnerable children aged 1 to 2 have seen a dentist for a preventive visit.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely, Sarah Bedard Holland Executive Director
