Older Americans Act Includes Oral Health Provisions
President Obama has signed into law the Older Americans Reauthorization Act of 2016, which includes, for the first time, oral health provisions. The reauthorization redefines the term "disease prevention and health promotion services" to specifically include "oral health." The law also allocates funds to oral health, enabling state agencies and Area Agencies on Aging to use funds to improve oral health in older adults. This funding has the potential to impact 12 million seniors in the U.S. who receive services from state and area agencies.

Oral Health 2020 Update
VaOHC was awarded an Oral Health 2020 (OH2020) grant from the DentaQuest Foundation in January 2016, to continue our efforts to increase diversity in the oral health network, engage new community partners and providers, and integrate oral health into person-centered care models. As part of the grant, we regularly convene workgroups to support the goals of the Virginia Oral Health Plan. The OH2020 initiative also funds four community -based organizations in Virginia to support oral health in person-centered care at the local level.

VaOHC staff member Katherine Libby has transitioned into a new role, supporting the the entire national OH2020 network of partners. This means great things for Virginia as she will bring new relationships, promising practices and new ideas to us, while she is sharing some of Virginia's great work with partners across the nation. Katherine's email and phone number remain the same: klibby@vaoralhealth.org and 804.269.8724.
