ACTION ALERT

Congress to Vote Tomorrow on CHIP Funding Extension -

Show Your Support Today!

Tell members of Congress you care about children's health and urge their support of bipartisan legislation in the House of Representatives which will extend funding for the federal Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

If the funding extension is not passed over 100,000 children and 4,600 pregnant women in the Commonwealth could lose medical and dental coverage.

Tomorrow (Thursday, March 26), Congress is voting on the funding extension for CHIP as part of the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) legislation, often referred to as the "doc fix." The legislation also includes a two-year funding extension for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program.

Contact your congressional representatives today to urge them to vote YES on the SGR/CHIP funding package (sample language provided below).

Here's how you can help:

Dear Representative [Name],

Children's health care is a critical issue for each and every child.  Without an extension of funding for CHIP, many children in Virginia will lose their health, dental and mental health coverage.  I urge you to extend funding for CHIP.  As a member of Congress, please act quickly to ensure that Virginia can continue to operate its CHIP program (known as "FAMIS") without interruption.

By voting YES on H.R. 2 that Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, you will be taking action to ensure that over 104,000 children and 4,600 pregnant women in Virginia have access to affordable, high-quality health care.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
