The Bible is copiously replete with both commands and examples of LIFTING HANDS TO GOD. Why?
1. It requires a bit of effort from you.
2. It requires obedience from you.
3. It signifies you know from where your help comes... from ABOVE!
4. It signifies that you know THE ANSWER like a student in class volunteering to answer a teacher's question.
5. It scares the devil!
6. It signifies SURRENDER.
7. It is an OUTWARD EXPRESSION of an INWARD GRACE like water baptism.
8. It signifies an uplifted banner of war.
9. It requires some HUMILITY on your part to do such a simple thing in front of yourself, others, and God!
10. It signifies you know He is higher and bigger than yourself.
11. It helps you GIVE IN to God in your heart.
12. God uses it to CLEANSE the ATMOSPHERE around you when you do so.
13. It is one of Gods prescribed points of contact to begin sensing His presence. (His commands are NOT empty!)
14. It marks you as DIFFERENT from ordinary selfish humans.
15. If among others, it helps them to GIVE IN and YIELD as well.
16. Simple obedience to silly things God demands of you will spill over into your obedience to God in larger more crucial matters.
17. It requires you to trade your Self-Consciousness for God-conciousness! Embarrassment is nothing more than self-centeredness and self-absorption.
19. Little hinges open huge doors!
20. It signifies you are DRESSED AND READY FOR SERVICE to the Master.
21. It is an acceptable sacrifice that invokes a divine response.
22. It is better than being slouched over and arms hanging!
23. It signifies you REFUSE to give in to your circumstances and difficult challenges, but instead have chosen to stand strong in The Lord.
24. It signifies you are PULLING HELP DOWN from Heaven upon yourself.
25. Palms open and uplifted signify you are OPEN to God and receptive to His Spirit moving!
26. It makes your body submit to God and begins breaking up the fallow ground in your heart.
27. It begins as a step of obedience and ends in a warm embrace of God.
28. It says you are REACHING for The Lord.
29. It's you hugging your Heavenly Father!
30. It signifies you are saying to God, "Look no further Father, here I am; Kumbaya my Lord!" (Come by here my Lord!)
31. It's like waving to your best friend!
32. Do it for no other reason than because God says so and that throughout the entire Bible!
33. Do it because so many other Bible characters whom you want to be like did it as well! |
