Dan's Nuggets
Lessons From David & Goliath
....Read 1 Samuel Chapters 17 and 18 first!
You have visible human enemies, not just invisible demonic enemies. You have both.
The enemy always has a SPOKESPERSON, a FRONT MAN. (Sort of like Obama for abortion, gay marriage, and gun control, by the way.)
Your family members may misjudge your motives or think you disqualified for the prize. Familiarity breeds contempt, as they say.
Your friends' and family's opinion of you doesn't have to be your own opinion of yourself. You choose.
Consider God's opinion of you when men's opinion of you is vomited upon you.
Going into battle, verbally recount your former victories to yourself and to others.
You have to talk yourself into victory!
Your willingness to enter into the battle is only after you have internalized the rewards for doing so.
The potential REWARDS of battle must begin to outweigh the RISK of battle in your own mind.
Let REWARDS motivate you more than RISK.
Let the vision of THE REWARDS grow bigger inside of you than the RISKS of failure in the matter.
You must become jealous for the name of the Lord and the glory of God before entering into battle.
Talk to God first, then turn and talk to the enemy!
Vertical communication must proceed horizontal communication.
You must fight the way God has taught you and with the weapons you are comfortable with.
Your Goliath is speaking to you, intimidating you with thought suggestions or possibly words through other people.
You must ANSWER the negative words with positive words... God's Word!
You must defeat the threats of your giant with GREATER WORDS than the giant's.
Postive words, yea Biblical words... FAR OUTWEIGH fearful words.
FAITH WORDS erase and cancel FEAR WORDS.
The name of Jesus on your lips seals your enemy's fate before the battle even starts.
Defeat your Goliath, whatever or whoever it may be with FIVE SMOOTH STONES! Memorize 5 scriptures that promise the specific victory you need. Pray these verses back to God. Read and re-read these verses over and over again. Let them become a living reality inside you.
When the 5 scriptures you make your weapons become bigger on the inside of you than the giant you are facing, the victory is for all practical purposes, already won!
Often the COMBINATION of 1) SUPERNATURAL weaponry like scripture and using the name of Jesus aloud, mixed with 2) A NATURAL ACTION like David's slingshot, will secure the victory.
War in both the NATURAL and SUPERNATURAL. Take spiritual steps and ordinary steps to solve a crisis.
Attack your enemy!
Run towards your problem.
Face your giant!
Speak aloud to the giant looming over your life!
Look past the face of your giant into the FACE OF GOD towering above that ugly, dirty, filthy, smelly, drunk, cussing, threatening, bullying Philistine!
"Bullying" was a problem back in David's day too! Ha! (As a side note: Don't you get sick and tired of the buzzwords of our generation that divert people's attention, energy and resources away from the issues that really matter.)
Someone has wisely noted, "When the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future."
God will make any strategy He gives you penetrate the defenses of the enemy.
The enemy has a "SWEET SPOT," a bullseye... somewhere. Ask God where it is!
Your victory will invigorate others to join in on the victory.
Fear God, not your Giant.
Like David, recognize the Giant is actually fighting against your God, not just you. YOU just happen to be the visible target, but your Goliath is actually mocking God by targeting you, the apple of God's eye.
Who is bigger, the Giant or your God?
David's Courage overpowered Saul's Experience and Goliath's experience.
Courage is stronger than stature or experience.
Get good and mad at what's standing in the way.
"Get out of the way, you turkey you!"
"Get out of my garden now!"
Let yourself become fanatical and obsessed to see God get His way in your situation. More is at stake here than just your own comfort.
Ignore your family, extended family, or relatives who unwittingly may try to water down your faith.
You have got to answer to God, not your family or relatives.
As someone has wisely noted, don't sacrifice BEST on the altar of GOOD.
Don't come down to the level of your relatives' faith. Win and in so doing, bring them up to your level.
The promise of a beautiful woman and no more taxes for the rest of his life no doubt helped motivate young David.
One victory leads to another.
The appearance of your weakness can actually be used to lower the defenses of Satan and your enemy.
Your enemy may overestimate his or her own strength and power, thereby overplaying their hand.
Goliath had THREE weapons: the sword, the spear, and the javelin. But David had five - the smooth stones in his bag.
God may choose the most unlikely weapon or strategy for you to defeat the enemy.
Like David who used Goliath's own sword to cut off his head alive while he lay on his face with a stone in lodged in his forehead, God can show you how to turn the enemy's weapons on themselves.
Warfare is bloody. Get used to it.
You may have to go down into the valley below to defeat the enemy.
You may have to jump a brook or other obstacles to defeat your enemy.
God takes the weak things of the world (YOU), the foolish things of the world (YOU), to defeat the powerful things and the seemingly wise things of the world.
The enemy only APPEARS bigger.
Others will follow in the footsteps of your boldness and victory.
Your victory is the victory for many other people surrounding your life.
One man with some faith can stem the tide of battle for thousands of others.
Like David who carried Goliath's bloody head, swinging it around for all to see, TROPHY CASE your victory with a lasting testimony to God's greatness!
Like King Saul, some kings and leaders lose their courage and their edge over time, and it may take a nobody like you or me to win the battle for them.
Speak, speak, speak God's Word into the atmosphere!
Speak, speak, speak aloud, the name of the Lord into your enemy's face.
Become jealous for the name of the Lord whom our enemy is defying.
Goliath did NOT paralyze Saul and his troops. FEAR of Goliath paralyed them.
The enemy is adept in threats and taunts.
Words of the enemy created fear in the hearts of Israel.
Appearance of the enemy created fear in the hearts of Israel.
Words of David spoken by himself created faith in the heart of David.
First the bear, then the lion, then the Giant. Every battle and victory prepares you for the next.
Don't wear someone else's armor; wear your own.
Don't do it someone else's style; do it your own style.
Being yourself is a large percentage of gaining the advantage.
Get used to battle. You will face another soon enough.
Toughen up. Ruggedize yourself.
Chase your enemy and keep chasing until the enemy is entirely consumed.
Enjoy the booty of your battle won.
Goliath was bigger on the OUTSIDE. David was bigger on the INSIDE.
Your inside world is more important than your outside world.
Your inside world will eventually impact your outside world.
The victory always goes to the one whose thoughts and words are ordered aright.
For every Goliath in life there is a matching David somewhere. Might as well be ME!
Faith tactics always defeat fear tactics.
Its not the size of your weapons; it's the accuracy of your weapons that matters most.
Every problem has a weak place in its armor.
God will show you how to exploit the weakness of your enemy.
God got all the glory. David got all the spoils.
Sycophants and Juggernauts can will all fall to the ground once confronted with men of real integrity and fortitude.
The enemy is talking to you. Talk back!
Speak up!
Speak louder!
Aim your words.
Focus your faith by your words.
Release the secret weapon!
Act like the victor instead of the victim.
Talk like the victor instead of the victim.
Believe like the victor instead of the victim.
David believed the right things. Goliath believed the wrong things.
Your God is bigger than their gods.
Prophesy the end of your enemy in advance!
You are spelling "ENEMEY" incorrectly. An enemy is not your doom, but your door of promotion into more God territory.
On the other side of defeating your most daunting enemy is REST and RELAXATION, peace and joy.
AFTER THIS... a season of rest, a season of promotion, a season of REST.
Who spent the most time in God's Presence? Goliath or David? Who won?
Whose confidence was in himself and whose confidence was in his God?
Which man was a God-Chaser and which was a People-Pleaser?
Goliath cussed God and God's armies. By using the name of the Lord, David effectively was cussing the devil and the devil's crowd.
I cannot allow what other people say to limit my faith.
I must learn to ignore those who side in with the enemy's belief system.
Your fear shall not become my fear.
Don't sign for the fear package when it comes knocking on your front door. RETURN TO SENDER!
Your present victory will further connect you with new key people who can help you secure future victories! Consider the entrance of Jonathan into David's life after he defeated Goliath.
Just do it! |
