Semi-Annual Assembly Prep and Pie night

On Thursday, April 16, join other conference volunteers in helping to prepare packets, nametags, and other items needed for Saturday's assembly.

Afterwards, we'll share pie and ice cream. Email Brook at [email protected] to reserve your slice of pie.

We're also looking for additional interpreters for Saturday's Assembly. If you're able and willing to serve as one of several to translate into Spanish, please contact Brook.

The report from the March meeting of the MCUSA Constituent Leaders Council is now available on the MCUSA website:

 

The CLC is a representative body made mainly of up all of MCUSA's member conferences, which gives guidance to the MCUSA Executive Board.

MWC Assembly service projects

Mennonite World Conference (MWC) is expecting 125+ children ages 4-11 from all over the world to attend the Assembly in July. As part of the children's programming, we would like to have the children do several service projects. We need your help to collect the items needed for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) School Kits so that we can fill school kit bags and send these much-needed supplies to children all over the world! We are in need of the following items for each bag (new items only):

  • 4 spiral or perforated notebooks (8 1/2 x 10 1/2 in and 70 sheets)
  • 8 unsharpened pencils
  • 1 ruler (flat, flexible plastic; indicating both 30 cm and 12 in)
  • 12 colored pencils (in packaging)
  • 1 large pencil eraser

If your church would be willing to collect and donate the contents for some of our school kits, contact Becky Degan at [email protected].


 


ACC Display for Global Church Village at MWC Assembly

One of the Mennonite World Conference Assembly highlights will be the Global Church Village (GCV), where guests will be able to explore and learn about the life and mission of local churches around the world.  

ACC will be holding a display in the GCV and is looking for any level of involement from conference congregations. If you would like to contribute an idea, a visual, or your time to this display, contact the ACC office, [email protected]

Chatter, Chow & Cheerful Service

Women of all ages are invited to this morning event hosted by Atlantic Coast and Lancaster Conference Mennonite Women at the MCC Material Resource Center in Ephrata. 

After a morning of service, enjoy a soup lunch. Please bring your own bowl and spoon, and a pint of chicken corn or vegetable soup to share!

Many new child abuse laws took effect in Pennsylvania on December 31, 2014 that will have an impact on churches and ministries with children's programs.

Tel Hai Women's Retreat

 

On Saturday, April 25, Tel Hai  Retirement Community is offering a Women's Retreat titled "Joy: God's Joy, Our Joy and Sharing Joy."  The presenter is Mrs. Lois Boyer of Conestoga Mennonite Church.  Registration begins at 8:30 AM.  There are 3 sessions that begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 2:30 pm.  There is a $20 fee that includes lunch.  Reservations may be made by calling the Pastoral Care Office at 610-273-9333 extension 2009.

Amish Educational Series at Garden Spot Village


Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, in collaboration with Garden Spot Village, will present three sessions entitled Amish Educational Series at Garden Spot Village on April 20, 27.  An additional session presented by Paul Kurtz representing the Nicholas Stoltzfus House in Reading will be given on May 11.  These sessions are free and open to the public.

Friendship Community's Annual Fest and Auction

"Nature with its ever-changing dynamics and seasons, offers its own array of natural beauty." Youth groups serving through K-teams

EMM's Kingdom Teams (or K-teams) offer youth/young adult groups the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural mission within a local context for one week during the summer months. This summer, join Wilkens Avenue Mennonite Church in Baltimore, Md., in serving their diverse community through prayer walks, children's ministry, and more. Ministry activities will be mixed with discipleship training that helps participants grow as disciples. Available weeks are June 17-21 and June 24-28. Family History Conference-

"Celebrities and Cellmates:" 

This year's Lancaster Family History Conference focuses on finding that famous or infamous ancestor, with a keynote address by D. Joshua Taylor of the Genealogy Roadshow. There are also numerous workshops for the beginner or advanced genealogist. The conference takes place of April 24 and 25 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. Of dioramas, Nobel prizes, and Mennonites

Sample the artistic, literary, and historical heritage of southeastern Pennsylvania with this field trip by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society (LMHS).  Learn about dioramas of Abner and Aaron Zook, view the largest collection of fraktur in any Mennonite museum, and enjoy the home of Nobel Prize in Literature winner Pearl S. Buck. The tour takes place from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 2, starting and returning at LMHS.  Tickets cost $84 for members and $95 for nonmembers; register by calling the Society at (717) 393-9745 or by visiting lmhs.org.


 

Mennonites and baseball

Enjoy a baseball game between the Harrisburg Senators and the Reading Phillies and hear stories of current and past players with Mennonite background who have played Major League Baseball.  This field trip hosted by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society on Monday, May 11, will leave the Society premises at 4:30 pm and return approximately at 11:00 pm.  The trip costs $40 for members, $50 for nonmembers; registration is due April 28 by calling 717-393-9745, or by visiting lmhs.org.
