The U.S. military is in the process of establishing the Drone Command Center at the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station north of Philadelphia from which remotely controlled drones armed with deadly Hellfire missiles and Paveway bombs will  target sites and human beings thousands of miles away.  The next on-site witness opposing this will be on Saturday, September 27, 2014.  We plan to leave the Akron (Pa.) Mennonite Church parking lot at 10 a.m. to allow for a brief deli luncheon stop in Horsham before the witness begins at noon.  The event is scheduled to conclude by 2 p.m.; we should be able to return to Akron by 4 p.m.  If you are able to participate, contact H.A. Penner at penner@dejazzd.com or (717) 859-3529.

Help needed in the MCC Material Resource Center

We need your help. The Material Resource Center is looking for interested members of your congregation who are skilled at sewing and can assist us with two major sewing projects from October through December, 2014.

The Mennonite World Conference (MWC) planning committee has commissioned the MRC to sew 10,000 registration bags in preparation for the upcoming Mennonite World Conference Assembly to be held in Harrisburg, Pa. in July 2015.

We also need volunteers to assemble and sew MCC scarves for the MWC Assembly as well as for other meetings and conferences throughout the year.

Through these projects we generate income for MCC to support relief and development efforts around the world. And we repurpose used clothing donations, keeping discarded items out of the landfill! (We accept donations of used clothing, fabric, cardboard, newspaper, office paper, magazines and discarded books.)

Interesting in supporting these efforts?  Call the MRC at (717) 733-2847 or email EastCoastMRC@mcc.org for more information.
