Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer

MacDonald, Gordon. A Resilient Life. Thomas Nelson, 2004.
"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith" Hebrews 12:1-2. In "A Resilient Life" author Dr. Gordon MacDonald challenges readers to "Finish what you start, Persevere in Adversity, and Push yourself to your potential." In a generation where children are becoming less resilient, it is important that we remember to teach our children to not give up when the going gets tough but to "press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." MacDonald coaches readers through his own personal experience of getting up when he falls down, running when he is weary, and keeping his eye on the goal. Being a champion runner, MacDonald uses the metaphor of a runner to show that a resilient life is possible to achieve and that "you can move ahead no matter what." "It makes little difference how fast you can run the 100 meters when the race is 400 meters long. Life is not a sprint; it is a distance run, and it demands the kind of conditioning that enables people to go the distance."
