Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
|
Belcher, Jim. Deep Church. InterVarsity Press, 2009.
In the postmodern culture of today, the church finds conflict when trying to engage the culture but not lose its main mission that Christ has for the church. The church today has conflict within itself; emerging vs. traditional views. In "Deep Church: A Third Way Beyond Emerging and Traditional," author Jim Belcher goes off of C.S. Lewis' term "deep church" which he used to describe the body of believers committed to Mere Christianity. Belcher's perspective takes "Deep Church" as a third way which combines tradition and culture. He presents both sides of the emerging and traditional views but encourages readers to "look beyond the extremes and go deep." Belcher wrote this book to address the concerns of emerging and traditional church views held between evangelicals. "Plumb the depths of Christianity in a way that neither rejects our postmodern context nor capitulates to it. Instead of veering to the left or the right, go beyond the extremes - and go deep." The heart of it all must be Christ and His church.
