President Meyer in Charisma Magazine |
 |
On Sept. 24, 2014, University of Valley Forge (UVF) President Don Meyer, Ph.D., wrote an article for Charisma magazine titled "The Positive Power of Negative Thinking." He discussed the power of negative thinking and how saying "No" can be as effective and useful as saying "Yes." He wrote on two life scenarios when one should respond negatively. In Right vs. Wrong situations, it becomes clear when a negative response is necessary. In Good, Better vs. The Best situations, choosing the correct response becomes more challenging. President Meyer discussed how saying "No" to the good possibilities makes room for the great possibilities. In both scenarios, he offered biblical examples, allowing for further insight on how to use the God-given gift of time effectively. To read the article, visit charismamag.com.

On November 7-9, 2014, the University of Valley Forge (UVF) will host the annual piano sale in the Flower Chapel, featuring Yamaha pianos. The university entered into a partnership with Menchey Music a few years ago. As a result, UVF hosts the company's annual county sale and in return, is provided with new pianos for students' use. This event is by appointment only.
As part of the sale, Yamaha combines the practice pianos with inventory from their stores and factories. If any practice pianos are sold, Yamaha replaces them with new ones. This is a tremendous blessing for our music department because it receives quality pianos at no additional cost to the students or the university. If you are in the market for a piano or interested in instrumentation, be sure to come support this fantastic partnership. Make an appointment.

The Office of Marketing erroneously reported that Randy Stegner was the student director of the spring 2014 theater production of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations." While Stegner had a key role as assistant student director, the talents of Katherine McInerney '12 were used to direct the cast. We sincerely apologize for this oversight.

Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
|
Yperen, Jim Van. "Making Peace: A Guide to Overcoming Church Conflict." Moody, 2002.
Conflict in the church: the battle over power and varying opinions can act as a poison to the health and mission of the church. In Jim Van Ypernen's book "Making Peace: A Guide to Overcoming Church Conflict" this non-profit Christian conflict reconciliation founder explains why so many struggle with church conflict. He looks to no other than Jesus himself for the answers and resolution to these problems. Having served hundreds of pastors and dozens of conflicting churches, Ypernen brings his own experience and findings out into the open. This is a great resource to pastors or laypersons looking to help bring their church from a place of disorder and dissension to one of peace modeling the verse Isaiah 26:3 which says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
