Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
Richmond, C. Floyd. Audio, Video and Media in the Ministry. Thomas Nelson: Nashville, 2010.

When speaking of a church, the mental connections that people initially make often consist of pastors, deacons, Sunday school teachers and the congregation itself. Yes, these are all valid parts of a church but there are often many more that play major roles behind the scenes. Among these is media services which includes lighting, sound, projection and broadcast. As long as everything is lit properly, the words to the songs are up and the sound is pristine these volunteers are often left in the shadows but as soon as something goes awry, the limelight is on them.

Dr. C. Floyd Richmond, professor here at VFCC, as well as church musician and technology specialist, writes "Audio, Video and Media in the Ministry" to the new volunteer who may feel that their role in the church body is an insignificant part of what God is really doing in the church. Dr. Richmond encourages each person that while they may not be a professional audio engineer or award winning producer, their placement in the ministry of their church is vital. Media specialists create an organized and digitally functional service that provides an atmosphere that encourages the congregation to draw closer to God. As a thriving church body it is crucial to keep in mind the truths that Romans 12:4-5 lays out before us: "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."
