Gee, Alex. When God Lets You Down: Trusting Again After Pain and Loss. InterVarsity Press: Downers Grove, 2006. We have all been let down at some point by family, friends, acquaintances and even God (or so we think). When a wrench is thrown into the gears we quickly search for a reason for it or a person to blame. When tragedy strikes we question God's mercy for His children and His ultimate and unbeatable plan for our lives. Author Alex Gee, pastor of Fountain of Life Family Worship Center and president of Nehemiah Community Development Corporation, had the same great tragedy strike...twice. He and his wife lost their first two daughters due to premature birth. His opportunity to become the father he had never had was ripped from him as his heavenly Father stood by and allowed it to happen. As he and his wife worked through the pain and struggled with their faith in the loving and merciful God that Alex so often preached about, they found no easy answers or quick fixes but a long journey to hope. Life is not always about rainbows and butterflies. There is a time and season for everything and although we may not like the timing or the situation, we have a God who is "our ever-present help in time of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear." |
