VFCC Launches New Website

VFCC is excited to announce a brand new website, released February 4, 2013. After a year of planning, writing and redesign, VFCC's story is effectively told through new streamlined features, videos, pictures and informative content.

The new website not only offers prospective students a fresh look at VFCC, but also gives current students, friends and alumni updated tools and easy access to news, events, available courses, an interactive campus map and other valuable resources.

Distinguished Alumni Awards Nominations

Each year, Valley Forge Christian College (VFCC) presents awards to recognize alumni who are making a remarkable difference in their churches, communities, workplaces, and, ultimately, in the Kingdom of God. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Distinguished Young Alumni and Distinguished Alumni Service Awards.

Nominations for these awards can only be accepted until March 15, 2013. Those received after the deadline may be considered for next year's awards. Thank you for taking a moment to nominate your fellow classmates and friends for this year's alumni awards. Awards will be presented at Homecoming 2013. If you require further information, call the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at 610.917.1414.

 Secondary English Essay Competition

Graduating high school seniors pursuing a college major in Secondary English Education have an opportunity to compete for a $500 scholarship to VFCC's new Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved English education program. At VFCC, education students work toward teacher certification for grades 7-12 while developing a Christian perspective on education under the guidance of seasoned educational professionals who embrace the integration of faith and learning.

The scholarship will be awarded to the candidate whose essay best demonstrates a mature command of writing and analytical skills. Deadline for submittals is April 15, 2013.

Three Reasons

When Peter Englert '09, a former admissions counselor at VFCC, read an article in Relevant Magazine entitled "3 Reasons Christians Should Consider a Non-Christian College", he felt inspired and compelled to write a counter article, "3 Reasons Christians Should Consider a Christian College". Englert's article was published in Relevant Magazine's January 2013 edition.

2013 Spring Break Missions Trips

Missions trips for this year and their respective contacts include:
  • South Dakota - Christine Crozier and Prof. Peggy McQueen
  • Thessaloniki, Greece - Tori Rogers
  • Macedonia/Albania - Ethan White, Brian Mascaro and Rev. Gary Gallina
  • India - Kathleen Bird and Prof. Kim Clark
  • Himalayan Trek - Thomas Cauley and Rev. Jenny Duncan
  • Nicaragua - Kiersten Seaburg and Amy and Steve Thurston
  • Trinidad - Alyssa Goodling and Joseph Kivala

Alumnus Returns to Teen Challenge as Counselor

When Josh Didden '11 stepped off the campus from the Rehrersburg Teen Challenge Training Center's recovery program in 2006, little did he know that some day he would return with his wife and children as a counselor. Years later, when a job opened at the Rehrersburg Teen Challenge center, Didden applied and was offered the job from his former Teen Challenge counselor.

Valentine's Day Contest Winner

Congratulations to VFCC student, Hannah Krietemeyer, the winner of the VFCC Valentine's Day Facebook contest. The contest asked for students and alumni to share their most romantic date and the post with the most "likes" by Valentine's Day would win. Krietemeyer won a dozen red roses and a gift card to a local movie theater!

Blast From the Past Contest Winner

Congratulations to Melissa Falk '96 from Stamford, Conn. - our winner of the $25 gift card for her entry in the "Blast From the Past" picture contest!

"Blast from the Past" is a feature in the Annual Report that mailed last fall. The picture above was published in this year's edition. Seeing this picture brought back some fond memories and we enjoyed reading the responses so very much.

Falk's memories include a classroom experience with Gary Carter '98 (pictured, second from the left) during a preaching class.

Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer

Dr. Don Meyer

Buchanan, Mark. The Rest of God. Thomas Nelson: Nashville, 2006.

How often do we "rest" in a day? Sure, we may rest while we are driving to our next activity or maybe when we sit and talk on the phone, but when do we truly step out of the hectic daily routine and just relax our bodies and refresh our souls? When do we cease the constant blur of thoughts buzzing in our brains and just rest in God? Believe it or not, as followers of Christ we are commanded to. We are not given an option, yet often we neglect to. Mark Buchanan does a phenomenal job in his book The Rest of God in bringing us back to the basics of rest and restoration. He makes the point that even our days of vacation can be hectically filled leaving us just as tired after as we were before. In these busy and overwhelming days we need to bask in the "peace that passes all understanding" which is only found when we take time for the Sabbath and take the time to truly rest in God. Only then can we say that we are fully refreshed, revitalized and ready to take on the countless demands of each day.
