North Star SHRM

North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: Changes and More Changes: New Laws; Different Directions.

It will be held at the Minnesota School of Business (11500 193rd Avenue, Elk River) on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 8 am to 9:30 am
.

All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend.  In addition, all Elk River and I-94 West Chamber members, and Minnesota School of Business students are invited to attend.  There is no cost to attend.

The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any small business owners.  This presentation will go through some relatively recent changes and developments in employment and labor law that have come through state and federal legislation and court decisions.  It will include do's and don'ts for HR professionals relative to the changes.  This will also include some reflections on developing trends or stated directions taken by policy makers and enforcement.

  Learning objectives are:
  • Provide information on specific law changes;
  • Explore court decisions or legislation rationale;
  • Suggest HR compliance strategies;
This seminar will be presented by Pat O'Donnell, from Smith, Paulson, O'Donnell & Erickson, PLC in Monticello, MN.

Education:

Juris Doctor, William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1988
B.A.,cum laude, St. Cloud State University, 1981
MSBA Certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist, 2011-present
Practice Areas: Labor and employment law and civil litigation

25 years ago when Pat O'Donnell was talking to his son's grade school class about what he did for a living, he simply said, "I solve peoples' problems."  Today Pat is still doing the same thing in his practice.

Whether it's strategic diplomacy and subtle persuasion or figuratively holding his opponent's head  under water, Pat's goal is to obtain results for clients, efficiently and cost-effectively.  Pat's background as a Navy veteran and martial artist have instilled in him that honor, respect, professionalism and personal responsibility are paramount in dealings with others - in assisting clients, in adversarial negotiations and in the courtroom.  In addition to his legal work, Pat is passionate about professional and community service.  He serves and has served on many non-profit groups for many years.
