Hello from 4 D Acres Everything Emu
We would like to thank all of you that stopped by the farm during the Miami County Fall Farm Tour. Loved the questions that were asked. Keep them coming - most popular one is answered later. We will now start planning for the Spring Tour held on the second weekend of May, 2013. One of the most often question that is asked is "How did we get started raising emu?" About 17 years ago Mike visited a Farm Show and talked to a couple who was raising emu - intrigued by the stocking rate compared to cattle, he brought home literature so he could talk about it with Dee. Well life intervened and that discussion never took place. But, six months later at another farm show - this time the talk took place and we started inquiring about this fantastic bird and the rest is history.
This past month we took some of our emu into the processor. New this year we will be offering an 8 oz 4 D Acres Original Emu Jerky and 1 oz 4 D Acres Original Emu Snack Stick. The jerky is different from what we sold before as it is still all natural but not made with cranberries. Both of these should be available for purchase by the middle of November.

Recipe - Italian Emu Meatballs
1 lb ground emu
1 Tbsp. minced dried onions
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. coarse dried parsley flakes
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1/8 tsp. Italian seasoning
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
1/3 c. plain bread crumbs
In a bowl, add all ingredients, mix with two forks until blended. Form 1 inch meat balls and place on a non-stick baking sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes. Serve with spaghetti sauce over pasta. Makes 38 to 40 meat balls.
