With the Affordable Care Act in Place

Is Pickle Amendment Still Important?

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), some may wonder why they should continue to screen people for potential Pickle eligibility? The ACA improves access to affordable health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans, so one might assume that Pickle is no longer needed.

In fact, according to a Q & A from the Tennessee Justice Center, Pickle remains important, because 1) Pickle is the only source of health coverage for many people, and because 2) Pickle can lower medical expenses for many others

The Justice Center's 2014 Screening Tool provides a quick and easy way to screen for Medicaid eligibility under the Pickle Amendment.
